My 05 C6 is throwing an engine code and I'm looking for background info before I go to the dealer.
My local repair shop pulled the code and told me that it was a generic code that could relate to many issues and that the best thing to do was to take it to the dealer because it could be an emissions related issue that would be covered by the 8yr / 80k mile emission warranty. He also told me it could be as simple as the gas cap not being sealed correctly.
Anyway, right afterwe reset the code, it tripped again...leading towards an emission related issue.
Has this been a common issue with C6's....I have 23k miles and owned it for only 5k.
If the gas cap is the problem your DIC would say check gas cap. What is the code? Take it to the dealer. It is under federal emissions warranty for 80,000 miles.
With out knowing the specific code its pure conjecture.
If you have a CAGs eliminator swith and the internal diode is bad it will give you a ses light also. I have replaced several at the shop on customers cars for that issue...
Before you even tell us the code I'm going to predict that it is P0442 which is an evaporative emissions code and it will be related to your gas cap not sealing properly. Some of the gas caps on the 2005 cars were prone to early failure and if that is it the replacement will be covered by your emissions warranty and you should not have to pay a penny for the repair thanks to a revised notification sent out to owners (and dealerships) for this issue.
