Default C6 Conv Question

I have a 2007 conv. As probably all of you know, when I turn off my car and walk away from it, it will arm its anti-theft. If the top is left down and someone walks up to my car while it is armed and tries to open the door, the door will not open, and it will make a few clicking sounds, as if solenoids are being triggered. Part of what is being triggered is an electronic response to the trunk, which does not allow the trunk to be opened (until the car is disarmed) via the button inside the car.

If however someone does NOT try to open the door, and simply reaches in and pushes the button to open the trunk, it will open, even if the anti-theft is engaged.

So, what I have come up with is that there is obviously some electronic relay that CAN talk to the trunk to lock it, but this only happens when the car feels that it is being tampered with.

What I would like to accomplish is to have every possible thing lock on the car when I walk away from it with the top down. obviously the console will not lock, but I think that getting the trunk to lock is reasonable.

any thoughts?

So far, everyone looks at me like I am crazy and even Corvette specialty shops said they have never heard a request like this.

Am I really the only Conv Corvette owner who wants to leave their top down but also wants a little security, or is that really too hypocritical for technology to be able to accomodate?

Thanks

When I leave my Vert with the top down, I raise the windows. Unless you are an Orangutan, you can't reach the buttons.

With my luck, this would encourage some moron to simply climb over the rear quarter panel and into the cabin of the car to unlatch the trunk; scratching the paint and tearing the interior with his boot spurs. I never leave my either of my 'verts unattended with the top down.

But if the thief is cordial enough to close the truck when he's finished he will set the alarm off...

Good question....you would of thought the GM engineers would have thought of that wouldn't you? Maybe they should have put the trunk release in a more obscure location?

Easy Fix. Just put the top up before you leave the car. Too many bad things can happen when our verts are left unattended with the top down.

OK, try this, I just did

Push the lock button on the remote twice, first time lights should flash,
and second time horn should sound. then place remote 30 feet or so away and then try trunk button. Alarm should sound.

I just did this on my 05 and it works. I dont know why the car dosent set it when i walk away but it works when I set it by the remote.

Thanks for the advice. This is the same thing that the Chevrolet dealership told me. I am not so much looking for a horn to go off, but for a relay to stop the trunk from being opened at all.

I appreciate the advice from everyone about not leaving my top down and rolling the windows up, but I still think that there should be some technology out there to prevent my trunk from being opened while the top is down.

I have never been a fan of the autolock feature. When I leave the car with the top up or down, I push the door lock button on the door and then close the door. The button on the dash does not open the trunk when I do this. I never put the top up in the summer and always have my golf clubs in the trunk. Try this. The only two flaws that I have found in the system are that the CDs can be ejected and the gas door can be opened when the car is locked with the top down. I installed a locking gas cap and I use CD copies, not originals in the Nav system.

A solution to any button problem like yours would be to put another, hidden, button in series with the trunk button, then to have it work, you must hold the other button down to get the regular one to function. But again, the trunk button should not open the trunk when the car is locked...mine certainly doesn't.

I love the idea of the auto lock, but like you mentioned, it seems to lack some functionality. You are correct that when you lock the vehicle with the FOB it does disable the trunk release button, but what I would like to accomplish is to have the trunk button be disabled (just like when I use the FOB) - only when the car does the auto-lock instead.

I am certainly not an engineer, but I know that when things work off relays this really should not be a rediculous request.

If people are wondering why all the fuss when I can just use the FOB - I don't like to take the fob out of my pocket to lock the car. I put my keys in my pocket in the morning, and take them out when I go home. That is a very big luxury featuere for me and a huge deciding point for me when I purchase a vehicle.

Well, Thanks for the responses so far - you guys are great community!

100%....I also never take the fob out of my pocket. For my use, they would not even need to put buttons on the fob as I never use them. I would love it if they made a fob that was half the size and had no buttons at all. When I am going to get out of the car and I want to lock it, I hit the button to open the door and I immediately hit the door lock button on the door. I do this instead of the auto-lock because I do not lock the car about 90% of the times that I get out of it. But the answer to your situation is still easy, even if you don't want to hit the lock button on the door. You can hook up another button or any kind of momentary switch in series with the button on the dash and mount it in a hidden location, like under the front edge of the seat or inside the console. Then the button on the dash will only open the trunk if it is pushed while the hidden button is also pushed. Even if the hidden button is found, pushing it will not do anything. And the button back by the license plate will still work normally so you can get into the trunk from the outside of the car.
