I have read thru and searched many threads about the TPMS sensors. My story, I've had THOR for about 3 months, from day 1 the tire pressures on the DIC have all shown XX. Also, the message "service TPMS" is constantly displayed. I stopped in the local Chevy Service today to have the sensors checked and programmed if needed. Service manager had tech take car and check the sensors. I was told the sensors are there and they are working. He couldn't explain why I am seeing the XX's in the DIC. I asked if a custom tune would cause the issue, he informed that it would not because they are separate computers. Has anyone had similar issues or point me in the right direction? Is this service dept. just not familiar with the Vette? I have seen where others have had success with Discount Tire or places similar, is this the route?
doesn't sound like they programmed your sensors..you said the dealer confirmed that they were there and working....how did they confirm they were working?
take it to another dealer.....see what they do. also you may have a defective computer module that receives the signal from the tpms
Most dealerships and tire shops have tools that check the sensors and whether or not they are transmitting properly. They don't need to turn on the car to use the tool. What question did you ask the guy? If you asked if the sensors were good you got your answer. If you asked them to fix the problem then you didn't get what you asked for.
Dealerships and tire stores have tools that check whether the sensors are working without turning on the car. What question did you ask them? If you asked them to check the sensors then you got your answer. If you asked them to fix the car then you didn't get what you paid for. Since the sensors are working it sounds like there is a problem with the receiver in the car.
I gave them the symptom, SS stated that they verified that the sensors are there. I didn't ask how they confirmed the sensors, I know about the tool an assumed that they would use it in the process. I did ask them to reprogram but was directed to schedule an appt for a thorough check out / fault isolation. There was no fee for what they did, which was only 10 minutes.
it only takes a few minutes to program the sensors to the computer...they should have done that for you...sounds like they want to make money from you...if you are close to a discount tire, call them and find out if they program the sensors to the car for free...that's where i would start
with the other posts - take it to Discount Tire or some other tire shop.
I can't believe that the dealer did a diagnostic check of the sensors but didn't then just do a relearn procedure to program them properly. If they had tried and were unable to do the procedure, that would be good knowledge to give you, so I assume that they didn't even try. It only takes about 60 seconds to do the procedure!!!! (the video below is 2 min 16 sec, and I'm yaking and taking my time for a demo video)
Take a look at the video below so you know how to do the procedure. The Chebie dealer only works on GM products, so they should know exactly how to do it. If you take it to a tire shop, they work on many different vehicles so it will help if you know how to put the car into the learn mode and know to tell them to put the antenna of the tool on the sidewall of the tire right next to the valve stem. Make sure they do it in the order LF, RF, RR, LR, and you MUST get a horn honk at each wheel (double honk at the LR).
