I have a 2009 C6 w/ Factory Nav. I was out Sunday night and tried to turn off the radio and when I pressed the button, nothing, pressed again, nothing, pressed and held down, nothing. Thought I was going crazy so today I looked it up in the manual and yes, that's the way you are supposed to turn it off but mine doesn't! Anybody else have this issue?
If you were playing a CD and the unit was trying to re-establish its position on the disc, the button will not turn off the unit until the unit is finished doing what it was doing. Its kind of like shutting down Windows, has to be done in the right way, not just cutting the power.

I wasn't playing a CD at the time, it has the slash across the GPS and was not tracking me and that's why I wanted to turn it off. It finally started tracking me and I then tried again to turn it off, no go. I shut the car off for 15 minutes, power button till didn't work. I was still out later that night (Hours later) and it still wouldn't shut off.
My button works just fine. I guess you're talking about the round push button/volume control button on the bottom left of the unit.
While in Nav mode with the Nav map displayed, if I push the button the radio turns off and I still have the map.
If I'm in Source mode (with the radio station "buttons" displayed), when I push the button the radio turns off and i get the uber cool c6 crossed-flags logo displayed.
If I'm in Nav mode and turn off the radio, when I push the Source hard button on the left side of the unit, the radio comes back on and the station buttons are displayed, i.e., I don't have to push the round volume control button to turn the radio on.
If your round button won't turn off the radio, something is the matter. I don't think there's any way to program the button to do anything different.

Ohhhhh......You're talking about turning off the NAV!!!
AFAIK, you don't turn off the Nav - it's always on!!
Hmmm...., I guess I'm not explaining it well, sorry. The Nav was on the display, the radio was on, I wanted to turn off the unit, meaning Nav and Radio, in my Tahoe I hit the volume button and eveything turns off but in my C6 I hit the volume button and nothing goes off, Nav screen stays on and so does the radio, nothing will shut off using the volume button.
If the NAV screen is on, push the radio volume button and the radio will turn on and off, but not the NAV screen. The NAV screen will stay on the display.
Push the SOURCE button off to the left and the RADIO screen will appear. Now push the radio volume button and the radio turns off and the screen displays the logo. If you want the screen off completely, use voice control and tell it "SCREEN OFF".

If you shut off the car and then open the door, that should kill the radio regardless of switch position. But with a computer controlled car, you never know...

It shuts off when I close the door, that's not the issue, the issue is the power button will not turn it off if I want to turn it off while driving.
There seems to be some gremlins in there for sure. I have an 08 and many times I will startup and the radio comes on as if I had it on last time I drove....but I didn't. AND....I can push the on/off/volume button till I'm blue and it won't go off until it is ready to shut off.
Seems like it waits for something to fully initialize and THEN and only then will the radio respond to the on/off/volume button.
The radio must "boot"...none of the buttons will do anything until it is finished. I have learned this when I turn off the car with a CD playing. When I start the car the next time, the CD will start up and it takes a few seconds before I can turn the volume down...sometimes embarassing with the top down!
