The 2010 A6 allows you to depress a upshift paddle for an extra second and it will shift back to auto/sport mode
IMO this is a nice programming feature, you don't have to use the shift lever on the console.
Can this be reflashed into an earlier a6 w/paddle shift
I'm not sure but if you get a 3rd party tuner like Chuck CoW, it may be part of his latest offering. I know he added all the features of the 08 A6 to the 07 and earlier A6 Tunes. I'll let him respond to this question as I'm interested in the answer as well.

Strangely enough.....I have yet to see a 2010 Automatic with the exception of the grand sport...
I would have to imagine that the grand sport has the latest A6 trans cal...
If anyone has a vin # for a 2010 A6 GRAND SPORT please send it to me in a PM...
I'll test to see if I can put the 2010 GS calibration in an 06 controller without stuff blowing up!

Let's give it a try!

Chuck, as long as you are willing to experiment, let's try to go all the way and check a 2011 too.
For clarity:
New for 2010:
S-Mode: Paddle Shift Automatic Feature
Hold "+" one second to return to Auto mode
New for 2011:
D-Mode: Paddle Shift Override Feature
Can use paddles in Drive mode to override gear selection
Auto mode takes over after paddles are not used for 10 seconds
Note: Quotes taken from the slide presentation at the Bash, April, 2010.
My new 2010 coupe has this feature on the automatic. I's great. I like shifting the auto and cutting back to automatic mode with the shift paddle. I drive most of the time in Sport Mode.
I really don't understand why the features can't be programmed into earlier cars. It's freaking software for crying out loud. That would be like Dell selling computers with software that was year specific. Absolutely ridiculous, but I'm honestly not surprised.

Your right about not being surprised, GM WILL NOT update programing on C6's, if your car has a lemon program in it and they come up with a newer fix for another year model with same transmission, YOU'LL always have a SOUR program. The same thing for NAV. You can depend on GM for GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS, hahahaha!

They are not stupid, how else would they be able to tempt us to upgrade a whole car if you could just flash all the upgrades.
so, without running the risk of hijacking your thread, is the A6 a good trans, do people like it over the 6 speed manual? I'm asking as i am looking at GS convert with an A6 trans. My other vettes are all sticks.

You may be right but this is exactly what sours customer loyalty, something GM needs to start to cultivate, and why they're in the position they're in today.

From what I have learned the 09 and above on the A6 is a different build, so you cant just flash the trans and get the cool rev matching prog.
With the factory tune on my A6 I can blip the throttle and get a nice rev match on the D/S from 6th ,5th and 4th, but going down into second or first no way.

For what it’s worth, the latest tune iteration Chuck sent me for my 2010 Camaro rev matches in all gears using the paddles.
It also rev matches in sport mode (without paddles as I slow to a stop, or slowing in a turn) with little to no jerking at all. I have not tried it at the track, but on the street, it has a whole new personality. It would appear that different firmware version of the A6 trans computer allow for different features to be fine tuned.

Hmmmmm....that is interesting. Sigh. Thanks for jumping in with that info.
