Default Chip on windshield

I have a tiny chip on my front windshield. Dealer said they will charge 40 to 60 bucks to drill a hole and patch it and that it will still be noticeable. Any other suggestions?

Autoparts store you can get a kit for around $15. The one I bought has 4 suction cups with a resin chamber in the middle. I believe the packaging was yellow. Fixed 4 chips on a winshield. 1st attempt turned out fair, you can still see a little part of the chip. Attempts 2-4 turned out perfect since I figured out what I did wrong on 1st attempt.

Basically you position the chamber over the chip, put resin in the chamber, screw a cap/pusher into the chamber that pushes the resin into the layers of the winshield and fills the chips. Let it dry, remove chamber from windshield. Do some finishing with a razor blade and you are done.

Here is a writeup I did some time ago. Results were very good.

I have chips all over my windshield. It's part of living in Alabama and there really is no way around it. It sucks because in one year I have at least a dozen stone chips already. None of them with spiders coming out of course, or big enough to use those repair kits on, but nice little impact craters all over the glass...

Assuming you have ins coverage, most will cover free repair or replacement of front windshields and no deductible.

Lots of logging trucks, lots of loose gravel on all the major roads & highways.

I try to keep as much distance between me and the vehicles in front of me, but inevitably the tires on the cars/trucks ahead kick up rocks all the damn time. Never lived anywhere else where it was as bad as it is in this state!

I ended up with a small chip on mine a few days after getting it. I learned real quick to follow a couple car lengths behind.

As far as price goes though, it's $50 for someone to come out up here and do it on site for you. It seemed like a really easy process, but I didn't even know you could buy a kit to DIY until now.

Our insurance will do this for free with a great company. We had one that could not be fixed and the repair company beat the dealership by several $$.

IMO always carry 'full glass' coverage on your auto insurance...the additional premium is only a few dollars and with few exceptions there's no cost for glass repairs or replacement.

If the chip is repairable, I suggest you have it professionally repaired. I had never done a chip repair before buying my C6 but not long after I first got the car I got a chip. It was in my direct line-of-sight. Once repaired you have to look close to even see where the repair was made. It worked well.

Don't know where you live (no profile), but Techna Glass will do the repair in 20 minutes for $20. Just had a chip repaired on my truck and they did a great job.

You're not alone. It's also part of living in western PA. Probably more dump trucks per capita than anywhere else in the US.

I've learned the hard way to stay far away from roads going through construction projects and stay way far back from trucks in front of me.

Just had it done - no deductible with lifetime guarantee. They would rather repair than replace your windshield.
