Default C7 to get new 5.5L small block

According to sources inside GM, the C7 Corvette will be one of the first cars fitted with the next-generation small-block V-8 GM has announced it is investing $890 million to develop and manufacture.

GM has confirmed the new small-block V-8s will feature aluminum blocks and heads, direct-injection, and a new combustion system. Our sources say the C7 engine will displace 5.5 liters, with a target output of about 440 horsepower.

The new small-block will retain a traditional overhead-valve layout, ensuring compact dimensions and lower manufacturing costs. Prototype engines reportedly are already running on test beds in Detroit.

Time for the regular Vette to have 500 HP and get great fuel economy, oh the LS7 fits that bill

I don't know if the reported displacement information is accurate or not but it seems plausible. Since you flatly refute the C7's purported displacement (of 5.5L) I'm curious what the definitive source of your information is?

Personally, I hope displacement is not decreased.

Good-bye cubes, good bye low end torque! Not a big fan of smaller cube, higher revving engines but it seem to be the way GM is going now...

The new car will almost assuredly be significantly lighter, so that quoted HP target would generate a nice bump in HP/Weight ratio.

If only there were a forum dedicated to the C7....

You got that right. Lots of low end torque (often derived from large displacement and bore/stroke ratio) is what moves you on the street and what results in the power most people think of when they get shoved back in the seat.
