I need some counsel and advice from seasoned Corvette owners. I recently bought my first Corvette.. 2010 GS Vert (life long dream) and want to take it on some road trips but am worried about cleaning the bug splatter off of it. I have heard many times that bug splatter can cause problems for the paint of a car. I always hand wash my car but that would be impossible to do during these trips. What do you folks do to handle this situation?
Before I do any trip, I put a fresh coat of Rejex on the front bumper. Every night, at the motel, I clean the bugs off with detailer spray, if washing the car is not possible.
Go right now and get a clear bra installed. It costs a bit of cash but it's worth every penny! Trust me, you will not regret this purchase.
Cheers,
Mike
I have taken my Corvettes on 4500 mile trips in the summertime, and agree with 2 of the above posts. I have a clear bra on my front bumper and side mirrors, and detail with Rejex every 3 months, including a fresh coat prior to any trip. Bugs come right off wit a little detail spray. Rejex is the best paint protection going.
The paint on your new Corvette is no different than the paint on previous cars that you have owned. Do the same thing that you have done all along with regard to bug splatter.
Everyone has their own oppinion about clear bra...I dont particularly like it, but I think a good coat of wax every month and some detailing spray will be all you need. I have a white car as a DD and take the bugs off daily with no problems or stains.
I recently tried the Rainex Bug and Tar remover and was EXTREMELY pleased with the results!
It sprays on thick so it can work to loosen the bugs without running off. Then just wash the area with your regular car wash soap and put a coat of Zaino on it!
(No, not trying to start another Rejex/Zaino war, Zaino is what I use and swear by).
If you put a good coat of wax on before hand, and then clean the bugs off as you go with detail spray, it should be fine. Just use a good amount of it and wipe gently.
I just drove my new (used) C6Z from Atlanta to Chicago (which was driven to me from New Orleans to Atlanta) yesterday and I had a nice layer of bugs I used a good amount of detail spray and gently wiped them off. I have not had a chance to wash the car yet, but got the major goop off.

I travel on a number of road trips each summer and I always carry a bucket with all of the washing equipment. If I can't find a carwash that I can wash by hand, I fill a bucket from the motel tub and hand wash the front and mirrors to get rid of the bugs. Bucket takes a little room in the trunk but you just bring fewer clothes!!

Wax before you leave. Take 1 quart or so squeeze water bottle and several used (twice) dryer sheets. Fill bottle with water wherever you are, wet the bugs down good while rubbing gently with a couple dryer sheets and rinse well. Detail spray is good after.
Bras are a waste of money. You will get rock chips, you will get bugs. Otherwise leave it in the garage.
Agree with most above. PJRED says it all. Drive it and don't worry about it. I carry a small water bottle, a few microfibers. Bird dropping are my worst fears, must get it off ASAP. Bug reasonably soon. Rejex or a good wax job are inexpensive ways to care to the inevitable "Suicidal Bugs".

...and I also recoat the mirrors with REJEX. Bugs wipe off easily with detailer.
The REJEX guy says just use detailer to clean with. While he didn't say so, I worry that the various bug and tar products will degrade the REJEX (and it's better than they are).
If you don't use it already, it gives the car a great shine when used instead of a wax.
