YET AGAIN, one more time.....
It is as simple as this...
For those that are interested, it is a fantastic option!
For those that are not, it's absolutely ridiculous.
For those who don't care, it is of no meaning whatsoever.
You would have the opinion of the second group, but it does not make your group right or wrong. It is only "your opinion."
Are you suggesting that those who are interested are CRAZY?

Look, the engine build "tour" is pretty much like a buyers tour or museum delivery. The buyers tour and museum delivery combined cost about 1K (fair price) if memory serves. So even if the other tours are included 6K is just silly. Just my opinion and I'm sure someone may pay it, but I feel safe in predicting there will not be many.

That is just cool as hell, but....
I did the Buyer's Tour AND Museum Delivery AND the PBC tour within a week of delivery. So I wasn't a cheapskate about it. But $5800 needs to be a misprint.
Heck I just had a full-on LSX engine built. Assembly, blueprinting, and all machine work was only about $2k.

Why is it soooo expensive?!?!?
Because they have to pay off the UAW to let non-union labor work on the assembly line..... Everybody wants a piece of the pie, right?
Just think of it though, if I helped build the motor, then I guess I can apply for a UAW pension when I retire....

I'm sure you are paying for the engine builder to be there with you overseeing and making sure it's correct. They correctly assume you can't do it as fast as one of the engine builders, so you are paying for that time.
If it also includes the buyers tour, museum delivery, etc as previously mentioned then it's a pretty good deal if this is something you would enjoy.
I for one would be interested as it's a once in a lifetime experience, but I would want my name on the nameplate.

FYI, the RPO order code PBC. Here's the scoop on the program.
Effective this Thursday, July 15, 2010, a new option code PBC (Corvette Engine Build Experience) will be available for ordering on all 2011 Z06 and ZR1 models. Selecting this code provides the customer the opportunity to be directly involved in the assembly of the engine that will be installed in their respective Z06 or ZR1 model.
The MSRP of this option is $5800, and includes one night stay; meals and a driver who will transport the customer from a Detroit area hotel to the Performance Build Center for their engine build experience. Similar to the Corvette Museum option, the customer is responsible for costs associated with travel to and from the Detroit area.
Within two week of the order’s submission, the customer will be contacted by the Corvette Engine Build Experience concierge to make arrangements for the engine build. If the customer is interested, the concierge will also assist with making arrangements for other unique Corvette experiences, such as the Museum Delivery, Buyers Tour, and Corvette Photo Album; however, all these experiences are an additional charge, and in the case of the Museum Delivery (code R8C) must be included on the vehicle order at the time of submission

Yeah, kinda...
Did not see that info anywhere, but still too much and the driving school has always been part of the purchase price of a ZR1. So are you saying they will pay for the driving school for Z06 buyers who go for the engine build package? The driving school is pretty expensive so it might be worth it for Z06 buyers if that's the case.

it would be incredible if your engine you built, was in your Z06/ZR1 in your 1 owner car, 30 years from now.. that would be MORE than worth the price your paying for it now... if your the type of person that gets tired of a car after a couple years and sells it, then nope, not for you...

If their goal was to spark extra interest (a.k.a. find another way to make $) in the C6, they would have got a lot more bang for the buck if they instead dropped the MSRP by $5,800 across the board.
I can understand museum delivery, but almost $6k to be coached in assembling an engine? Probably would have done better if they also had a $500 version that was just to watch and tag along. Anyway, not for me, but if any of you go please post pictures

Why all the groaning?
Hey, guys and gals, I think many of you may be missing the point of the entire program. This program is unprecidented in the automotive world. It is specifically tailored to the most passionate and ardent auto enthusiasts known to earthlings. That would be us. Is it frivolous? Probably to many. Is it costly? Probably to many. Is it inovative? You betcha. The experience of the full monty: "Building" your own engine--on site, watching your car being assembled--at the factory, attending the Bondurant driving school--on track: PRICELESS. NO other car manufacturer has ever indulged in this kind of thing before--EVER. Accept it for what it is and rejoice. It's American ingenuity in its' finest hour. Affordability is not in the equation. For those who go forward and partake of this offer, particularly with all the extra options, I say BON VOYAGE! It is not for us to condemn but to acknowledge. My salute to the General

The ad said,"optional". Is it still such a good idea IYO? There is a sucker born every minute and GM is counting on your emotional decision to get a some extra cash out of you. A fool and his money are soon seperated.
