Default Lifting Proceedure

I would like to know the correct way to lift a 2010-2011 c-6. I plan on doing my own work and need to know if I should use ramps or jack up with jack stands. Also can you jack up the front end with 2 pucks to rotate tires. I've heard all kinds horror stories so better safe than sorry.

There are only 8 approved "preferred" jacking points under the car. Ideally you need 2 cross beam adapters to mount on floor jacks to use the front and rear jack points. I suggest you check this thread for a tutorial on best practices then come back with specific questions.

Here's a couple threads that may help:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1301555

Modifying the Craftsman floor jack to better accommodate the adapter beam:

(the photos are no longer with this thread but if you'd like the photos PM me your email address....I'm sure I still have them somewhere)

*Northern Tool no longer sells the adaptor beam but do a search...it shouldn't be hard to find another supplier.

be careful not to crack your roof. these cars don't have any structural integrity.

I have a low profile jack & pucks. Lifting the 2008 was a nightmare f creaking noises. So I gt 67" Race Raps & extensions. They are GREAT. Change Oil, detail the lower front end, etc, are all much easier now. Well worth the money IMO!

Don't rotate your tires either, it would look really strange with big wheels up front.

Has anyone ever confirmed whether the post on the Summit Racing cross beam adaptor is 1" or 1.14"? Seems like there is some conflicting information on the forum and Omega/Blackhawk uses 1". That would be a lot to grind down...

It really depends on what you plan on doing. Ramps are great for doing oil changes, exhaust work, etc., but aren't going to help if you need to do suspension, brake, or anything else requiring wheel removal. IMO, you need both but you can do everything with pucks/jack/stands whereas the same is not true with ramps.

But to answer your question - yes, you can raise the front or rear to do tire rotations with just 2 pucks. You would use stands to hold the 1 side up or, if you are lucky, you have a 2nd jack for lifting the other side. If working under the car you would ALWAYS use jack stands for safety.

Show me where in the GM shop manual it states that you will damage the roof if the car is lifted...even improperly. I don't know about your C6 but I know for a fact that the 'structural integrity' (I'd call it structural rigidity) on mine is so good that just using 1 puck in the front front frame rail location will lift BOTH front and rear wheels on that side off the ground within 2 pumps of my jack, after the front tire is off the ground. And it isn't one of those fancy race jacks either.

Default Cleaning Wheels

I want to clean my wheels by removing one at a time. Is it safe to use floor jack with jack pad at each panel location lifting one wheel at time? Thanks for your help.

Yes. Just install the puck and lift away.

Sorry about the redundancy, so doing this (referencing the picture below) with 1 wheel at a time is fine, correct?

So you lifted the car from one spot at a time (as pictured above)? If so, did you run into any issues?

I've owned the car for almost a year and wanted to give the wheels a good cleaning. Purchased the torque wrench, low-profile Sears jack and the lift pad(s). Cleaned one wheel and well at a time with no issues. Might tackle the undercarriage next.......
