It looks like I"m going to have to replace the battery in my 2009 C6 Coupe (8000 miles and run for a little over 2 years). I had let the battery run out a couple of weeks ago and it seems not to be holding a charge any longer. Any recommendations on size / brand to replace with? How about the recomendations that the owners manual offers?
I would go with the Optima yellow top. Hinson Supercars (forum vendor) has a good price ($145 shipping included). Then pick up a CTEK 3300 charger to maintain it.

If you can get it replaced for free, go for it. If you're looking to upgrade, you'll want one of the following:

- I suggest the yellow top - these have gotten bad reviews over the past 5 years or so, but supposedly have fixed all of their manufacturing problems. This will cost you around $170

Heavy duty military-grade AGM batteries. Incredibly reliable (from what I've heard). Will cost you around $220

Lightweight batteries. Not as much power storage as a regular battery, but very light. Will cost you $170-$2000 It has been reported that their no-weight battery line consists of rebadged deka batteries (motorcycle/atv AGM batteries) and you can save about $80 by going with a deka instead.
My yellow top lasted for less time than the OEM battery. For that reason I don't recommend it. Many people think better of the red top. I was so disgusted that I just went to Walmart and bought their battery for less than 1/2 the cost of the Optima. Works fine, but it has only been some number of months.
Despite that the Optima battery is popular here on the forum (and is no doubt a fine battery) I'm quite happy using a conventional battery. Guys I know at the auto parts store where they sell both Optima and conventional batteries said based on the old batteries they see returned, the Optima isn't worth the extra cost. I'm generally a believer in going with the best but I'm just not sure the Optima provides an increased service life that justifies its higher cost. I got 3.5+ years of faultless service from my OEM 'factory' battery. When it came time to replace it I opted for a top of the line conventional battery.

Anyone think that I should follow the manuanl's advise and use the manuals recomendation and one of the Houston area dealers to install? Or is that over kill?

Since it is under warranty. why not have the dealer do it.

It is a battery... I hate Dealers, and Yes it is WAY over kill. But it is up to you, no harm no foul. It takes 5 min. to replace... I also change my own oil, brakes, etc.
The Duralast also has 3 year NO-PRO-RATE...Which on a Vette seems like a good bet.
This. I run one now in my 08 after the Delco one crapped out.

It's a 10 minute job at most. Simple. Just remember to check the stock battery orientation; on my 08, it's "upside down" when reading the battery label. I believe it has changed on some years for whatever reason.
I tried getting my battery replaced under warranty (it had a bad cell, tested at Advance Auto). Every dealer I went to (I tried 3) wanted the car with the battery in it. The problem, of course, was that the battery wouldn't take or hold a charge, so I couldn't get the car to them for them to replace it. I was NOT going to have my car towed to a dealership for a stupid battery replacement. Round and round we went; I finally got annoyed enough to get a battery with a better warranty and be done with it. I'm not a fan of dealers, either.
How much warranty would be left and how much do you estimate it save going with the dealership. I took owner ship in July 2008
The basic warranty runs until 3 yrs or 36k miles, the powertrain warranty runs to 5 yrs or 100k miles. There should be a warranty book in your glove box, has lots of interesting infromation.
You should be able to get a free battery under warranty, sounds like a good deal to me.
