Geoff

Seems like quite a few owners would like a private message with more information. My 2005 MN6 with 8300 miles is inoperable. Has happened intermittently before. Looks like permanent this time.

Default Update 1

I gave Geoff all my information including that I had been told that my 3rd fix was delayed a week waiting for a part AND that the week had just ended and I had gotten another call from the dealer saying that it would be 13 more days before the part arrived.

In addition to the lengthy wait for parts, I suggested that GM needed to address this with at least a uniform protocol if not a recall because of all the 2005's that were having this problem.

Geoff advised that would bring this to GM's attention and that he could not get involved in the parts delay until it had been ten days. So this past Friday (8/13) was that day.

More later.....

Same here......Its now not wanting to start at all. It baffels me why anything like this would be allowed to happen. Why GM did not create a process to bypass this by now is beyond me.

Glad to see that Geoff and/or GM is making effort to minimize or eliminate some of the problems that vette owners experience. I have not seen anyone (from manufact) do that on the BMW or Mercedes forums.

Hello,

I do apologize to everyone having this issue and completely understand how frustrating this can be. Especially to the ones that have made multiple trips to the dealership. I have been documenting these issues and relaying this information. At this point I recommend that you take your vehicle to the dealership for this and if the dealership is not being able to correctly fix this, to let me know right away. At that point I can speak with the dealership and get our Technical Assistance Center involved with this to help get the vehicle repaired proplerly. I do understand this is an inconvenience and a problem and I want everyone to know I am voicing all of your concerns to help get your problems taken care of.

Easy fix, don't buy an 05 MN6.

So do you suggest taking to the dealer no matter what? Id prefer to order the part and install it myself. Its obvious my car is doing the same as countless others have. If it continues after I repair with the factory part im sure GM will say my error.

Dealer will not know how to fix it.
Had to go to dealer 5 times for this during a 2~2.5 months span last year.
- First time, they said it's the BCM and paid $750+ to replace that.
- Second time, they could not find any problem.
- Third time, they still can't find any problem.
- Fourth time, mentioned steering column lock (per a post from this forum), but dealer said the new BCM was bad and replaced it under warranty.
With the new BCM, car not only still have the no start problem, but now added new problems of service active handling warning, brake taillamps staying on by themselves, brake pedal pulsation during start...
- Fifth time, I gave them the part#88963402 and they suddenly found code B2515 and replaced steering lock motor assembly part#088963402 and charged $1,000+ & reprogrammed the BCM to fix the new problems.

I told them the BCM never seemed to be the issue in the first place, but they insisted there was some short frying the BCM and that needed to be replaced anyway.
O~kay, so the car still functioned intermittently with a blown BCM?

Spending $1,750 to fix the ridiculous problem is only one thing.
But losing time during work days, rental cars, tight chest every time trying to start the engine with zero confidence it will start = way too much stress over a daily driver...

Anyway, car has not stranded me in over 9 months now, so I assume the part#88963402 did the trick.
Moral of the story is, don't let the dealer guess and don't be impressed when they say they are in contact with GM tech center to troubleshoot it. Just give them the part#88963402 and push them to test that part first.

One good thing to come out of it was, by the time it was fixed, I had mastered starting the engine by popping the clutch after getting it rolling (forward or even backward works!) and now I always park in the upper levels of the parking structure at work (used to park underground), so I can easily get the car rolling in case I ever need to pop start it again.

has anyone tried the c5 column lock bypass on their 05 c6? It might work if the column lock circuitry is the same.

Default Update 2

My car has been at the dealer for approx. 18 days awaiting a part.

I have just been refered to my 3rd GM Service Rep.

I have not received any information on the arrival of the part or any GM action on this problem.

Regarding the 05 column lock; I read in another post that when people swap a transmission from a later year into the 05 they find that the newer transmissions don't have as many plug-ins that send messages to the bcm indicating that the car is in reverse. As a result the column lock no longer "locks", the car runs fine BUT a message (scl) is set in the dic. One contributor to that post suggested that this might be a way to bypass the column lock. In 05's. Anyone tried this?

jim2092 -- as from the last time we spoke, I have NOT received any calls from GM or any representative of GM.

Moderators -- Is the "GM Cust Svc" person on here legit? He is sending us PMs, requesting information but as far as I know, no one has heard from anyone. Can you investigate? I know you cant get involved in the recalls, but you can get involved with someone who is misrepresenting themselves on the forums.

Geoff -- The problem is that WE dont want to keep going to the dealer to have them diagnose a known issue. WE want it fixed. WE should not have to pay (or keep paying) for an issue that is known and should be a RECALL. This is the main reason I have not paid to have the issue resolved and I am waiting for GM to sack up and put this on their list. And by the way, since you sent that PM to me, I have NOT been contacted by any representative from GM\Chevrolet\Dealer. I guess you arent really interested in helping us. Just trying to give us empty promises.

gsxrmatt6314 -- just a hint...if it doesnt crank over the first time but the aux system comes on, kill the power, open the door to completely turn everything off. Wait about 2 minutes. You will hear a "click". This is the steering relay (i believe) turning off. Your check engine light will still be on. Wait for that to go out (you will hear another click coming from the transmission relay). Give it a couple more seconds and attempt to fire it up again. Should start. If not, try the process once more. If that doesnt do it, pull one of the battery cables for about 10 seconds. This should "reset" the BCM and allow the car to start. I know it seems like a pain, and it is, but its better than being stranded. I do know that in cooler weather, the car starts more times than not. Unfortunately, I live in Texas and its been above 100 for the past few weeks....

Again, I do apologize for your frustrations. I do show that you set up a case with the BBB and that an agent did try to contact you. If you need information on how to contact that agent, I will be more than happy to send their contact information in a direct message. Please contact me in a private message if you do not have the information.
