So I was at my dealership last weekend getting the recall on my 05 MN6taken care of. Still didnt fix. While I was there, I asked about the price of a new SCL....$500 for part. Others on here have found it for $370. This is all getting ridiculous. Too many issues with the same things from other generations. Little rant here but I am just getting tired of all the "fixes" and some that GM wont cover because of cost. I will be putting together a letter to send to GM and maybe a few others about this. May even bring in an attorney if it doesnt get anywhere. Does anyone here know of contact information to GM to get someone's attention. Not sure if others have already spoken up for this reason, but here is another. Its time to rock and roll!!!!
I remember column lock finally becoming a recall on C5's a few years ago.I had mine done under it.If that's the case and it's the same issue,I'd demand they cover it under that recall since it's the same damn thing. All they did was reflash the computer in my mn6 01.
unfortunately its more than a flash. its an actual part replacement. about $1200 at the dealer or ~$400 for the part and 3 hours to install. yeah, it was a recall on the C5s and needs to be a recall for the C6s since there are too many problems with it. unfortunately its not safety issue so I cant write the Govt on it. Its just becoming too common for them to overlook and to have people pay for. but its all about the $$$. the SAH "fix" is a $2 clip. the SCL "fix" is a $1200 fix. GM doesnt want to pay for that on 10,000+ cars. BBB, here I come. and I am going to go further.
The 2005 model is the only C6 with the SCL. What is the problem with it. I have one with no problems and I can't remember any other with a problem either. The 25 cent clip is for the telescoping steering wheel and traction control.
yeah, 05 was the only one with the problem because it was the only one with the SCL. as I said in my post, the C5 had the problem as well and they did a recall in some of those models. SCL error and car wont start. replaced battery a few months back and still getting the problem. if I wait 30 seconds or so and try to start, it starts. if not, then I have to pull a battery cable to reset the BCM and it starts right away. no zip or sound from steering wheel like when I first got it. There are just more and more problems with them and it needs to be taken care of by GM.
the clip was replaced last saturday and the next day, I get the SAH error and my breaks locked up. Happend everyday this week.

On the contrary,It was in fact a safety issue and that's exactly why GM was finally pressed into making it a recall rather then just a TSB.There were instances of people driving down the road in their c5 when all of a sudden the wheel just locked up on them.No fatalities that I know of,but that was sheer luck and nothing else!
That's a good question. There was a bypass available for the C5, but I have not seen one offered for the C6. I went thorugh this problem with my C5. Had it fixed once under warranty when it locked up in my garage (dealer sent a flat bed for it). Then it happened again (after they "fixed" it) a few months later when the car was out of warranty and I was out of state on a road trip vacation. My 00's VIN was not in range for the recall, but GM fixed it again at no charge under customer "Good Will". The "fix" was to just disable the column lock. GM came up with a way to disable it without the computer setting a code or thinking that the car was being stolen. This was the same fix that they did for all the recalled cars. In effect, you just no longer had a column lock. So, they never did really fix it so that if would function as designed. They just ended up wiring around their own lock and disabling it. Thank the car gods that GM got rid of the damn things for the C6s after the '05 model.

Hello,
I do apologize that you are having trouble with your vehicle. I am going to send you a private message for more information.
It's utterly amazing and beyond logic how this was such a HUGE problem on the C5's the whole time they were out, how the problem did not get addressed properly when the C6 came out and it is still a problem.
I guess this is a prime example of why you see GM having so many problems with service and everything else.

I would be interested to see what their work around was. there is not an actual bypass for the 05 (which i have to believe there is some way around it). We will see what comes of this since the GM Cust Srvc guy has been in contact.
I had the same problem replaced under ext warranty then it did it again the other day but has not did it in a while so im hoping for the best and I dont think there is a way to remove it or work around it im always scared it is going to strand me somewhere very frustrating
check w/ corvettes of houston or any other corvette parts seller
i bought a bypass from them, put it in myself, and never had another
lockup; this was on a 2000 mn6
basically, you get to a wiring harness under the steering column, pull apart a connector, and put a bypass unit between the connector ends; took about 1 hr; some smart vette owners said that Radio Shack actually carried the electronic mod to fix the problem.

Good Luck
There is no column lock bypass for the C6. Only the C5.

Geoff,
I sent you an email via the Corvette Forum a week or so ago about this same problem with my 2005 (so I am guessing your not getting your forum emails).
My 2005 has been in and out of the dealer for the past several weeks and has been there now for a week waiting for the third fix attempt. The first fix attempt was to replace the column lock actuator, part #88963402 which cost over $1000. I had to bring it back the same day for fix number 2, a new battery.
A day later the car had to be flat bedded back to the dealer to wait a week for a part #15915003, column actuator module, because there was no new GM part available in the US. It is being shipped from Europe.
There is something wrong with this on several levels.

I will happily accept your PM on this subject.
Hello,
I do apologize, not sure what happened. I am going to send you a private message.
Had a C5 a few years ago and had heard about the column lock from a friend who also had a C5 at the time that did lock up but i sold mine before any problems....2 years ago i bought an '05 GTO and then found out that they too gave issues with column lock although i think it's different {lock cylinder} than the vette but fortunately it never locked on me....Now, having just sold the GTO i'm in the market for a C6 Z06 and again i have to be concerned with this?....WTF!
I would love some more information. My 24k mile 2005 Z51 MN6 is getting worse and worse. Today I missed out on a deal at work due to the car not starting. Thanks GM
SCL is a issue GM knows about and refuses to make right.
