Transparent Top Question?
I just ordered one from Gene. It came yesterday and is still in the box.
The question is will it go right on? It already has the brackets.
Has anyone had to make adjustments to the brackets to make it fit right? Also, I have a tube of GM dielectric silicone. When I pop off the painted top I want to do the weatherstripping but that stuff is a PITA. Can anyone recommend a good stick type that I can get at Napa, Strauss etc. And one last qestion, I know when I put it on I'll probably have to remove the fingerprints. Is Stoners OK?
Thanks to all in advance. I know the East Coast and then some are all at Carlisle this weeekend. Their weather is suppose to be great.
Yes it'll fit right on but I wouldn't use Windex - - soap and water or a GM approved cleaner is the best - - see this forum discussion about hair line cracks in the lexan: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...lass-roof.html
Practically speaking, it probably wouldn't hurt - - but some cleaners seem to be suspected of causing flaws the lexan.
I'm a Harley rider and one of the best things to use is by a company called Novus. I've used it for years on lexan windshields and it works equally well on the Corvette "glass" roof and the headlights. You can find it at any motorcycle or Harley dealer.
Another good cleaner is Plexus and a micro-fiber towel. I use it on my Honda ST1300ABS windscreen and motorcycle helmet visor. Found at motorcycle shops.

The GM branded ,recomended cleaner is an ammonia based cleaner that looks and smells like Windex. If you want to pay more then by all means do so.
Novus is Specifically made for Polycarbonate which is what the Transparent Top is made of.
It cleans, polishes and keeps the plastic from drying out and cracking.
I use Stoners Glass Cleaner on Glass, but it Specifically warns "not recommended for Poycarbonate Plastic."
Google is your friend
I wonder if that has been the root cause of some headlight lenses checking. I saw a 2008 from Nevada with checked lenses, I can understand the strength of the sun there but wouldn't be surprised if the use of Windex or ammonia based cleaners may have made a contribution too.
Use windex multi surface with vinegar. It has no ammonia in it. Its cheaper than the other cleaners and will not damage your top, or headlights for that matter.

Thanks to all, I didn't even look at the can. Thanks alot. I have used it on my headlights but so far so good. Looks like Plexis or Novus may be the way. I'm on to Google now.

This stuff came with my first invisible bra and I sprayed most of the car yesterday after a thorough washing and WOW, it looks better than QD. Great stuff.
