Funny, I'm pulling mine off this week as well (was going to do it today but it was overcast, want to leave it in the sun first to warm it up).

Mine has served me well thus far, my C6 was a daily driver for 4 years. But it's a second car now, I don't think I'll put the miles on to worry too much about rock chips. I'm taking it off to have some minor paint work done, and will leave it off.

A good portion of the PPF installers who use the knife to make patterns on your vehicle started because there were not computer cut patterns at that time and the patterns which initially started i.e. armorfeud etc. were very skimmy. Many cutters do not like patterns because now that have to align film edges etc. rather then overstretch the film and scoring it. I will say a good cutter will charge big $$ and they will have the best coverage and many will remove lights, blinkers etc to insure the least number of edges. BUT there is no way to insure your paint will not be cut at some point.

As Texus mentioned you will not know the paint has been damaged until you remove the film or have a buildup of wax you just can seem to remove at the edges. AS far as patterns - the most important part of the installation is the installer (that's why there is a certification process for many of the reputable film manufacturers and pattern companies) and than the patterns used.) We use 3M, Ventureshield, XPEL and Proform patterns and their films and by far the XPEL and Proform patterns are the best. Best fitment, ability to add wrapping, ability to adjust the pattern coverage for the customer and very important for the customer - least number of pieces. The more pieces the more edges. For the vette this is not much of an issue thou.

If your installer is using computer cut patterns and using a knife to make the fitment - find another installer cause he does not know how to lay the kit on properly. For must folks I would stick with computer cut patterns.

Here some additional information from my other post which may be useful.

The darker the vehicle the more prevalent the hood line would be under certain light conditions especially so if you use high dusting waxes which reveals the edge line. You can eliminate this edge “almost” entirely when you opt for full hood and fender coverage’s with full wrapping. You can also use low dusting professional acrylic sealants or not worry about the edge line – 90% folks do not even know its there unless you show ‘em. We have installed XPEL and 3M films on this color (both z06’s) and you could not tell the film was on.

We always recommend bikini cuts on dark vehicle since this helps eliminate the straight film line across the hood. Our brain’s always fixates on straight lines so these helps. So with the bikini cuts you have to move across the front of the vehicle to see hood’s edge. Hope this helps.

As for ventureshield – this is a 3M product and we just got the warranty cards in and this is only warranted for 5 years – film only and does not cover yellowing. Which if you can read between the lines…. This film in my opinion is good for causal driving and those who require full hood coverage which require 60” film roll. We are certified to install ventureshield film as well as 3M, Nano fusion and XPEL.

You can view the new VS warranty card on our website. (You can PM if needed.).
Hope this helps.

Sounds like you've already decided, but let me add one more vote for the Nano film. My installer had access to several types of film, and was able to show me side-by-side installations of multiple types. The Nano had MUCH less of the orange peel effect that the 3M or the VS.

I had him do a custom install (not a computer cut pattern) of the NANO on the front of my Z06, and it came out PERFECT. No lines, no gaps, nothing. I watched him do the install, and was a bit nervous when he broke out the razor knife. But, it turned out my fears were pointless, because the guy had SKILLS. He would just barely touch the knife to the film - just enough to score it, but not to cut it. It was really amazing to watch for someone who's never seen it done.

I think you'll love the Nano film...I know I love mine!

I started looking for a good installer here locally so this thread is perfect timing

My question is regarding the headlights - there is a film they can put on these as well, but I am worried that it will cause excessive heat in the covers and/or exacerbate the issue with the cracking people are seeing.

clearbraj or other installers - do you cover the headlights or have an opinion on this?

Here in CO they put tiny rock on the road in the winter and it is horrible so many people use clear bra here and my last truck had it... I don't plan to even bring the Vette out until June and by Oct it will be in the garage until next June. Every vehicle I have owned since living here has had a cracked windshield within a year and everyone talks about the "Colorado Crack" on every vehicle, so the rock is Hell.

And on the track, sticky tires kick up everything, especially the sticky tires on the guy I am preparing to pass

But the headlight covers may be fine/better without it??

I to would like some feed back on the head lights.Would covering these hurt the warrenty if a bulb were to over heat or go out.
