What does a good alignment cost in your area and how long should it take for the C6. It's my first true sports car. Should I ask for any thing different than I would expect on a simple alignment for a sedan or truck?

There is nothing special about the alignment so the cost should be the same and take the same amount of time ($75, 45 minutes). The specifications, however, can vary. For a car the spec is usually just to get good mileage on the tires and make it seem easy to steer. A sports car can have the alignment tuned for handling, mileage, or ease of steering. Each affects the other and you must compromise on which you want to be the best.
Lastly, there is one VERY important thing to know about the C6 and that is how to lift it. Make sure both you and the shop knows but do NOT go to a dealer since the guy they have doing alignments probably also washes the cars.

I would also add in that it would be wise to do a 4 wheel alignment to be sure of all adjustment readings and that your shop has the correct adapter to adjust to rims that do not have the lipped edge. That seemed to be an issue in my area and I paid $100 for about an hour of work - well done.
My local dealership does a pretty fair job, however, I now use the local Volvo dealership for alignment work. The Volvo dealership has the latest in high-tech photo alignment equipment (the best in-town) and they nail the 'radical' alignment specs I use for the track. They're slightly more expensive at $120.00 but its worth it to me.

I bought a lifetime alignment plan at Firestone when I got the wide ovals. $125, can get realigned annually free. This store has a ramp type alignment system so no lifting and it does not drag the front end of the Vette. Takes a little under an hour each time. They provide a printout of all the settings before and after and have needed some adjustments each time. As said above, make sure you get 4-wheel align.
