Here are some pictures of the things I've added to my car. I have made or painted everything that is on it. For instance, the front grill and the vents are made from chromed aluminium mesh; the cargo mat is genuine leather - cut to fit, and free-hand painted with the emblem and script.
The dash script is done with bare metal foil.
That big piece of leather makes the car smell nice!
That took about three coats of "1 Shot Lettering Enamel"
Painted air intake emblem.
I enjoy painting and tinkering... but I really love driving it.
Thanks! BTW, since the pictures were taken, I tried to use a DirtDevil to get that dust off of the hood liner... it shows up in the pictures more than it does in real life.
Yep. I did the hoodliner. Sign painting, truck and race car lettering is a side line that my Dad and I used to do. It's a lost art, since most everyone uses vinyl... so I already have brushes, paint, etc. It took three coats on the insulation to get it to cover well. And it was really difficult to get a nice edge on the rough surface... but I think it came out pretty well.
One of my next projects is going to be to letter in the Corvette on the back of the car, but I haven't decided if it is going to be in silver, black, or something else.
Looks good , I used to have my race cars hand lettered, loved watching the sign painters do their magic, now the magic is the computer.
My Dad was better than me. His CB handle was "The SignMan" and he was lettering cars and trucks before I was born. It was the coolest thing to be 7 years old... after he finished lettering a race car... they would let me stand in the passenger side, holding on to the roll bars, while they idled it out of the garage, down the driveway and onto the trailer.
Dad's gone on to be with the Lord now and I'll cherish the photos I have of some of the lettering jobs we worked on together. He always teased me about being slower than him, he'd say, "Come on, Brent, grandma was slow, but she was old.":o
