We might have an issue with parallel parking our cars. C6 sits lower and has longer hood than other cars. Driver of the parked car ahead of C6 only sees top portion of the windshield when looking back. It is hard to judge how much distance left to C6's front bumper. Novice or slightly distracted drives do not expect the long front end of C6.
Question is, what should one do to avoid someone running to front of C6 while parallel parked.
- Do not parallel park if you can
- Leave a lot of space in front
- Park where no other car can park in front of C6
- Tilt steering, front wheel visible from other car's side mirror
If you are the "ONLY" driver can you set the side rear view mirrors to tilt down to see the rear wheels... and set it that way for driver II. Then just hit the #II button before backing in, the mirrors should tilt down.. then you can hit #1 setting later..
I know my wifes Audi the mirrors automatically tilt down to see the rear tires when the car is put in reverse...
I never parallel park my car. If I park in a garage, I park on the roof far from another car. If I'm in a lot, I park comically away. If I came down to parallel parking my car, I'd wait to get the first spot on the street so no one can back in to my front end.
I think the correct answer is: just don't paralell park your Corvette. Actually, it is not just the C6 with the long nose. All Corvettes from the late 80's on have that droop down nose that you cannot see from the drivers seat. I have no problem paralell parking, it is the dudes that attempt to park in front of me that I worry about! Especially the female gender with SUV's the size of a
large outbuilding! Heck, I won't even park side by side with one of those monsters....yes I know, there are some chicks that can perform well with them, but not around me they won't!

Parallel parked all my Corvettes and my Fcars more times than I can count etc. NEVER been touched yet, am I lucky, maybe.

What else comes to your mind?
This exact scenario happened to a friend of mine. We stopped at resort town for lunch and I paralleled parked and he paralleled parked in front of me on Main St. My front end was safe. After lunch as we walked back to our cars, a women parallel parked (of course an SUV) in front of him. Yes, you guessed it, she hit his front end. She didn't even know she hit his car.
BTW, I think parallel parking is becoming a lost art. Do any States still require you to parallel park for the driver's test? When I got my license, I was required to parallel park with the examiner in the car. Back then, I think it was called "K" parking also.

Its a car...nice car. Not anywhere near the most expensive car out there. Lots of people drive more expensive cars every day and leave them at the airport...so get over it, drive it and enjoy it.
I would not parallel park my vert for two reasons, the first is that it is near impossible for me to see and gauge distance out the back window when backing up. Secondly, I would be concerned about some one backing into it! That is why I have a daily driver, as I am sure most of us do!
Fortunately I've never needed to worry about parallel parking vette. If I did I would just park it and hope for the best. Not really much else you can do.
