Default Why squeal!!!!!!

Do all breaks squeal?
I have an 08 Z51.....5000 miles
Stock breaks started to squeal at about 4000 miles
Bought GM ceramic pads and installed them, bedded them and did everything else suggested in this forum.
Do you guys that change over to other brake systems SQUEAL.... If not WHY NOT..... What is different between the GM brakes and other brakes.
To me it's just embarrasing and anoying that Im driving a new Corvette and you can hear me coming

Please share...... Thank you

Seems pretty much ALL Z51 brakes squeel. At least everyone I've talked to with the Z51 package complains about it. Drives me crazy.

51,000 miles on my stock OEM pads and no squeal. My race pads are a different story

My question was.. Do Z06 Brakes squeal, do Brembo brakes squeal, do other aftermarket brakes squeal?
Why don't they squeal and a Z51 Squeal?

Just purchased my 05 last week with 34k miles and they squeal.... Changing pads this weekend and hopefully that fixes the issue. I'm just going with OEM pads since its just a street car unless there are other suggestions. I just have base not Z51. I hope this doesn't hi-jack the thread.

I read something about "bedding" the pads. Not sure if that might help. Going to read up on that.

Have an '07 Z51 with 11K miles and no squeal. The brakes squeal because the back of the pad is vibrating against caliber, not because the pad is rubbing the rotor. Go to your local auto parts store and buy some anti-brake squeal lubricant. R&R the pads and apply the lube onto the back of the pads where they contact the caliber. Do both inside and outside pads. DO NOT APPLY THE LUBRICANT TO THE FACE OF THE PADS!! Also, lube the bolts that the caliber slides/mounts on and the upper and lower metal edges of the pad where they slide on the calibers. Follow this and your squeal will be long gone.

on other cars I've had ferodo, raybestos, axxis/repco, ebc, of all different compositions, and on this car porterfields. there is sometimes, not frequently, a very little bit of squeaking right at about 2 mph until stopped. hit the brake pedal hard the next stop, not too hard, and it goes away for quite some time.

Brakes on my 06 (not Z51) have never squeeled, 12k miles. My Equinox squeels first 3 applications every morning, then ok.

Sanity is over rated. I put on new Baer rotors and ceramic pads and broke them in per the instructions.

Now they are quiet for awhile and squeak for a while. In a stop and go situation, the squeal comes back. Like most, I just turn up the radio.

I have F55 and my brakes squeal like the little pig in the Geico commercial. Started after about 1000 miles.

Default Brake Squeal

I have an 06 LT3 F55. I bought it last year with 28k miles. The brakes squealed! I replaced them with GM ceramic pads, now I have NO squeal!
Procedure: remove old pads, clean all surfaces, abrade the rotors (if you don't have them turned) using an orbital sander with an 80 grit carbide disc, lubricate all contact points as illustrated using the silicone lub provided, install new pads.
Bedding procedure: Run the car up to 60 mph, in a legal zone, and then stop as quickly as possible without activating the ABS system. Do this six time in sequence.
Allow the brakes to cool and then do it again.
A third time may be necessary to totally eliminate all squeal.

I don't know about Z06 brakes but I've driven with stock C6 brakes (solid rotor), stock C6 brakes with more aggressive pads and with AP Racing brakes...none have squealed. I stress the brakes regularly and change pads frequently.

I have an 07 F55 (has the same brake system as the Z51) with 13K miles and have never experienced any brake squeal.

Because of bad squeal on my 2005, I switched to ceramic pads and had rotors surfaced. Squeal gone. About 3000 mi later, much less loud squeal returned. (its a DD with mostly suburban street usage) Bedding doesnt seem to help. Will try the lube.

If lube fixes it, doesn't the factory lube them when they are new? Or do they need to be relubed at some interval? I have not had this issue on other cars but have on the C5 and a couple of C3's. Is there something about the multi-piston design thats more prone to squeal?

Also: Some years ago I bought replacement brake pads (for a non Vette) that came with a very thin peice of vinyl to stick on the back of the pad to reduce noise. Are those still around?

That may or may not fix the problem. look at the Carbotech 1521 compound.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.
