In Va no, in Canada yes. VA just documents the serial # on the ticket and sends you on the way.

I live in the far west and drive very fast. I have drawers full of beltonics, escorts, passports and speeding tickets. I need the superior range of the V1.

$100 each for all these other pos detectors.

Call it what you want. You can't buy a beltronics anywhere else for a hundred bucks and I will even throw in a couple of speeding tickets.

I really am trying to help but tire of all this enldess banter. The Valentine has 300% more range.

Does any state really have money to spend on new radar equipment? Michigan still runs a lot of old K band stuff and a little laser. My police friends say they haven't bought any new high tech speed radar stuff in a long time. Enough speeders that they really don't have to search for people with radar detectors. I've always had a detector and I think most that use them are more observant while driving or at least I am.

I have 9500xi and love it...however I would like to have the redline too...I chose the xi..due to the redlight camera and speed camera detection which I don't think the redline offers. I know there were some differences. Lots of intersections in my area..so, I thought the XI was a better overall choice...redline seems more for highway only driving? It was a hard decision...and I may get the redline too..and do a comparison.

I just need to get the blendmount in and connect so, I don't have that stupid windshield mount.

No, sorry to say it does not. I own about every top of the line detector out there and the new Bel/Escort stuff has surpassed the V1. I still love my V1 and if I could only have 1 it would be the V1. But there are many choices out there now, depending on what's important to the user is what they should buy.

Yes, states do have the money even as they lay off highway patrol. And some of them get it given to them free from companies like the Gecko advertising one, or the caveman, take your pic.

Just be careful out there, Mike, since some states actually prohibit any form of detection against traffic infractions, i.e., Virginia. This means red light GPS detection, too.

Chris (cclive) you gotta stop finding these deals and half. Makes me (almost---it's a real down economy kinda thing, y'know) want the holidays to come sooner so I can "present myself" with something..... That price gets it down to Valentine's price, almost.

When I did my research over a year ago the report was 313% greater range. At any rate I am he happy with the range. If I am bombing across the desert and get a single KA blip I am on the binders

I wonder if they would attempt to ticket you for using one of the POI/Red Light Camera warning 'systems' in your aftermarket Nav?

I don't know....it would require the exact opposite of what the "cameras" are for, namely, one less officer in a car monitoring that street/intersection. otherwise, how else would they know your nav/monitor told you of a red light (or speed camera) camera ahead, and you therefore stomped on the brakes?

I'd like to see who wrote that report, maybe compared to a Cobra or something like that. No way it's that much more sensitive than any other top of the line detector. It's actually behind the new Escort Redline and the remote mount 9500ci and STi-R.

I own and test this stuff religiously with some of the top guys in the country, the V1 is good and a favorite among many. It's hard to beat and I can't fault anyone who uses and loves their V1. I own 3 and can't imagine being without one, however it's no better than the top of the line Bels and Escorts these days with the exception of the arrows. Gotta have my arrows.

I also can't fault those that pick one of the top of the line Bel/Escorts, all goos detectors with a different feature set.

Agreed any Ka band hit is good reason to hit the binders!! Not many Ka falses out there!

.. been looking up the law here in the good ol' Dominion of Virginia ...

Here it is:

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...+cod+46.2-1079

§ 46.2-1079. Radar detectors; demerit points not to be awarded.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth when such vehicle is equipped with any device or mechanism, passive or active, to detect or purposefully interfere with or diminish the measurement capabilities of any radar, laser, or other device or mechanism employed by law-enforcement personnel to measure the speed of motor vehicles on the highways of the Commonwealth for law-enforcement purposes. It shall be unlawful to use any such device or mechanism on any such motor vehicle on the highways. It shall be unlawful to sell any such device or mechanism in the Commonwealth. However, provisions of this section shall not apply to any receiver of radio waves utilized for lawful purposes to receive any signal from a frequency lawfully licensed by any state or federal agency.

This section shall not be construed to authorize the forfeiture to the Commonwealth of any such device or mechanism. Any such device or mechanism may be taken by the arresting officer if needed as evidence, and, when no longer needed, shall be returned to the person charged with a violation of this section, or at that person's request, and his expense, mailed to an address specified by him. Any unclaimed devices may be destroyed on court order after six months have elapsed from the final date for filing an appeal.

Except as provided in subsection B of this section, the presence of any such prohibited device or mechanism in or on a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth shall constitute prima facie evidence of the violation of this section. The Commonwealth need not prove that the device or mechanism in question was in an operative condition or being operated.

B. A person shall not be guilty of a violation of this section when the device or mechanism in question, at the time of the alleged offense, had no power source and was not readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger in the vehicle.

C. This section shall not apply to motor vehicles owned by the Commonwealth or any political subdivision thereof and used by law-enforcement officers in their official duties, nor to the sale of any such device or mechanism to law-enforcement agencies for use in their official duties.

D. No demerit points shall be awarded by the Commissioner for violations of this section. Any demerit points awarded by the Commissioner prior to July 1, 1992, for any violation of this section shall be rescinded and the driving record of any person awarded demerit points for a violation of this section shall be amended to reflect such rescission.

(1962, c. 125, § 46.1-198.1; 1975, c. 108; 1976, c. 90; 1978, cc. 87, 91; 1981, c. 303; 1989, c. 727; 1992, c. 825; 1998, c. 300.)"

They tried to legalize detectors last year and failed ...

After reading this thread and then calling Valentine to get some inside poop on this subject, I was offered this site to read which is as the Valentine gent says, the best test as they do it correctly. All the Youtube videos I watched had two or three detectors mounted on the windshield at the same time and I was told this is a no no as there will be interference issues.

http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-det...rld-tests.html

I was also told that only VA and DC have the Spectre 111 RDD, which is very effective, in service. The fine is $40 for having a detector, therefore for those of us who drive outside of VA, it's more important to have other enhanced features. However, Valentine told me they are currently working on an upgrade to defeat the Spectre 111 and current models can be upgraded once it hits the market.

The most important features to me are detection of instant on radar, rear firing detection and of course the wonderful arrow indicators as to where the cop is! This particular test really does show that the Valentine is in my opinion the best unit on the market. I BTW have the version 3.872 software, the newest, and it is by far much better than my older Valentine.
