i have recently bought a 2007 vette. i have had two occasions that the run flat tire flat warning has come on the DIC. it hasnt lost any air pressure according to the DIC. do i have a flat or a faulty sensor or what...
It's remotely possible that a battery is failing in one of your TPMS sensors. If you have access to a TPMS tool, you might try re-registering them. If that doesn't fix it, you could also try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 30 seconds to force a complete reboot of all on-board computers. (You'll need to re-index your windows, of course.) If neither of these fixes the problem, a TPMS sensor may need replacing. If that's the problem, it should cost about $50 in parts and maybe $100 in labor at a dealership.
Not likely to be your problem, but starting with the easy stuff...
Hopefully, you are using a digital hand gauge or high quality analog gauge to verify those numbers? Check all 4 tires, sometimes sensors get moved on the car and the car mis-understands the location.
Your sensors are reading the correct tire pressure but the system says the tire is flat. The sensors are ok but there is a failure in the system that gives the warning.
I agree with Walt White Coupe. If you can read the pressure on the DIC it's receiving it from the TPS at the wheel. I really hate this system. They should just use the one that operates from the antilock brakes. We can check our pressures. I haven't had any problems but still don't really like it.
My left rear tire is a pressure of XX on the display.
All the others are showing the right pressure 32psi.
thanks for any help
the sensor in the left rear tire is not operating or the car is not recognizing same. two things - 1. have sensor reset (depending on your year car, you may be able to do - check the prior postings as lots of "how to's" have been posted) or 2. battery in that sensor or the sensor itself is bad. unless you have recently put on new tires or wells, the no. 2 above is most likely. will require a tire dismount and new sensor installed. you can buy from GM PartsHouse (forum vendor) at reasonable price. good luck - hope that helps.
I think that a pressure of XX means the car is not getting any reading from that sensor, instead of a number like 30 or 5. Could be in the car itself, but more likely a faulty sensor in one wheel.
Be sure to use a good hand gauge to verify all 4 tires.
You could have a dealer or tire store (with the right equipment) re-do the learning procedure, occasionally that helps.
