I'm just guessing here BUT,

I wouldn't think GM would manufacture and install something in a vehicle that is in violation of the law.

The NPP opens on it's own, under specific circumstances, and emits the wanted throaty sound. I also doubt that installing the M2W, which permits the exhaust to stay at the same predetermined throaty level, would provide a sound that exceeds the legal limit. I doubt (again) if the open NPP produces sound that exceeds the mentioned 82 decibels at the specified test levels.

Unless of course, the test requirements are performed at static/idle. But I still doubt the open NPP exhaust exceeds the measurement specified.

FYI: The original "Mild 2 Wild" accessory is proudly sold by the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. I'm hard pressed to think the installation of one of these would void a warranty.

You raise worthy points! Problem is, I don't know for sure either, and speaking only for myself, I hate tickets of any type, especially moving ones that make insurance premiums go up.

I may not be thinking clearly, but I do catch a glimpse of maybe when the vehicle is moving at 40 MPH or above, and the valves open, perhaps that is not as objectionable, and cannot be measured as easily, as when the vehicle is stationary, or moving slowly.

When I first received my new 2011 Z, just like a kid, I often went out really early in the morning, with valves open, and started it up. I can tell you that it is really really loud when cold, and really loud when warm. If I disappear from this site suddenly, someone please tell the police that my neighbors probably hate my guts . . .

You are such a worry wart.

1. The system is protected by a fuse.
2. If you are concerned about warranty issues, take the damn thing out before going for service. (2 min work if that)
3. Equipment violations are not "moving" violations and that's all insurance companies care about. And in the real world that I live in, that will never happen anyway. If in your imaginary world if you were pulled over you press the little green button, the officer says rev it up, you do and he walks away puzzled.

Move on.

Thanks for your comments. I have an opinion on this and related topics. I hope I can share these opinions with impunity.

All too often I read information on the CF that is published, but is either accidentally or intentionally just plain not true. I think most of it is accidental.

Example #1. Vendors who sell mild to wild exhaust controllers sometimes say that "a Chevy dealer actually installed our product on a new C6 they delivered, so our product is GM approved and will not invalidate the GM warranty." That statement may be well intended, but it is just not so, Joe. Just because a salesman, sales manager, or service manager from one or more Chevy dealers takes it upon themselves to install a third party modification, does not mean the corporation known as GM, nor it's Board of Directors, or anyone else with authority at GM will or has "approved" that modification, nor is it likely that will ever happen. In addition, the subject switch is not a 3rd party vendor replacement part, since there was never a GM version, thus it is a modification. In my GM warranty book, it states that a MODIFICATION voids the warranty. While some language within legal type documents can be complex and subject to various interpretations, that simplistic statement is not one of them.

Example #2. Same is true with the Corvette Museum. They are a separate legal entity in the form of a corporation and they do not possess either the authority or power to make a binding pronouncement that their use or sale of a product, legally binds GM to approve it, or to warranty it in the event of a failure.

Thank you, and I am always eager to consider all other opinions and shall respect them all equally. Robert

The whole thing should be a non issue.

If your car needs warranty work for , let's say, the rear hatch won't open, the addition of the aftermarket exhaust controller won't affect that work. But, if the aftermarket exhaust controller were to have an internal malfunction and overheat, thus resulting in damage to the fuse box , or even causing fire damage to your car, then GM isn't going to repair the fuse box or replace the car if it burns to the ground.
