Default Roasted Mirror

I have a C6 w 18k on it. Last week we had our first real cold snap here in lower Alabama, so Sat morning on my way to work I turned on my defroster which includes the driver side mirror and something internally inside the mirror shorted out and it cooked itself! It turned this brown color and and the reflective part started to crinkle. I'm just wondering if this has happen to anyone else? Luckiy my car is under warranty and the dealer covered it. The mirror unpainted is over $600 if you're wondering. All is good now, I'm just glad the car didn't go up in a burst of flames.

Haven't heard of that one. Really haven't used the rear/mirror defrosters on mine much but have seen no problems with it. Not sure the mirror one even works much. We have an Equinox Sport and they don't seem to do much on it either and we do use those ones.

Default Happened to my C6

I just had the driver's sideview mirror replaced under warranty at the dealership. It looked just like you described. The reflective surface was darkened and was delaminating at one edge. I thought it was from being parked in the sun or something like that, but now that I read you post I can't help but wonder if it was the same issue. Dealer replaced the entire mirror assembly so hopefully it won't happen again.

As Artie used to say on "Laugh-In"....

Veeeery Interesting!

My car is a 3LT w Z51 package. I'm not sure what all trim levels have the heated mirror. I also live in Mobile. Hit me up when you get back and we'll take the vettes out for a cruise. Hope you make it home safely.

This is the first I've heard. What year? Could be a warranty repair.

Will do. I'm coming home in about a week or so. Have to get the vette out of the shop (go fast goodies) and then get it tuned. If I get some down time I will shoot you a message. Take Care

By the way, do they actually know what caused it in the first place? I bought mine brand new and if it needs to get checked out I will take it in when I'm home. I'd just like to be able to tell them what to look for.

All trim levels have heated outside mirrors and auto-dimming driver's side exterior and inside rear view mirrors.

It's a 2006. And they weren't sure what caused it. All they said was something internal shorted out. I have an extended warranty and it covered it.
