I'm about to pull the trigger on some spendy upgrades and just wanted to get the overall opinion from you.
With the cost of mods, such as blower, heads, cam, misc you can drop anywhere from 10 to 20 k. It's something i have wanted to do but thats a **** ton of doe just for the seat in your pants thrill. I don't care how well off you are.
I guess I'm fighting with my self to be practical or not.

I could see going with Callaway, or with the Edelbrock SC system, but I'd rather have a bone stock, under warranty Vette. It's pleanty fast enough for me, and it's worth more, just the way it came from the factory. You should take a very small part of that money you want to spend and buy an extended GMPP warranty, you'll be alot better off in the long run.

I think a lot depends on how you use your car. If you spend a lot of time on the track or at the strip, there's probably benefits to what you're considering. I can't imagine getting your money's worth out of the mods you're talking about with street driving, though. These cars are so potent out of the box that beefing up the engine seems redundant. Maybe I'm just an old fuddyduddy.

BTW, your car is beautiful. So is the girl in your pics.

Save the money and buy another car. A Z06 has plenty of kick and when you sell/trade more people will be interested in purchasing. Another thing, you'll get a lot more of your investment back. Money spent on mods is basically gone. I personally don't change much on my car, anticipating acquiring another as the mileage increases and new options, colors etc come along.

It is almost impossible to answer your question because it involves your personal finances. Needs versus wants. You don't need any of the above for your car. If you have the money to spare, and you want to do it, then go for it. At the end of the day, will the cost cause you to regret your mods and not really enjoy the car? I don't think anyone here can honestly answer your question whether 20K is too much for YOU to spend on your mods.

As of today, I have spent about 20K on all mods. I love the car, and I know I will keep it a very long time given the money I spent to mod it the way I like it. I would love to trade it in on a Z06, but I would lose a ton of $. So I will keep it and continue to smile everytime I open it up.

I guess i was expecting more. After spending allmost 60k on my car back in 07 and with the A6 and the 256 rear end gears i can't even light the tires off. I know that sounds high schoolish and i don't intend to race around much, but I guess I expected a little more of the old muscle car feel.

Sounds more like an issue with technique than with the car's capabilities.

Sounds like you may want a different car.

depends on whether you plan on keeping the car for a good long time, or not. If not, you are not likely to recover the investment in the mods when you try to sell it.

Wow, i don't have this problem at all! I seem to be traction limited with my car. When I romp on it, the tires light up and I have to concentrate on keeping it straight down the road. More power would just burn more tires up. I've got the Z51 with the lower gear in the back and a 6 speed.

Could be more cost effective for you to just trade for a Z06 or even a Grand Sport with lower gearing? Warranty would still be in effect also. $20k + your car could buy it!

The only thing I regret is finishing the project and now have nothing left to do.

Putting my Vette together the way I wanted it was the most fun I've ever had in 44 years of life on this planet. What a blast.

It may feel good now, but you will not get your money out of modifying your car. I have been there and done that. Years ago I moded a firebird WS 6 to 500 hp. It was fun for a few years then sold it to upgrade to a Porsche getting NO money for the turbo charging. What is fun today, tends to be old tech a few years later. Now I have a 2008 corvette and it has PLENTY OF POWER and I intend to not go down the modification road again. I agree with the guys above. It would be better to sell your car and buy one with more power if that is what you really want to do. Best wishes on your decision. Blessings, K

I am 57 and if I lived in the lower 48 states close to a good installer and tuner would already have a SC on my 09 coupe.
Go for it. Life is to short not to enjoy yourself.

I would not do it.

Putting that much money into a car and making it less marketable just doesn't make sense to me. I'd sell (or trade) my current car and look for a used, stock Z06 if the added performance was that important.

good points here if you have to sell your car to get a new one. You won't get your money back.... not a dime.

That being said, not all of us trade/sell cars. When I get bored of a car, it goes to the warehouse with the others.

I know exactly what you are saying, I felt the same way when I got my C5 with a4. What I did was put in a 3.73 rear gear and a 3200 high stall converter. It was like getting a new car with a lot more power total cost with install and tune was 3k. I could light the tires from a 20mph roll from a stop I would go up in smoke

This summer I sold my c5 and bought a C6Z I thought I needed more power Guess what, its true what all the base and GS people say that kind of power is overkill on the street Don't get me wrong I love my Z but on the street I had just as much fun with my lightly modded C5 I don't know about where you live but around here the speed limit on the hi-way is 70 my car will do that in 2nd gear

Lets be honest most guys are looking for stoplight to stoplight performance. So you could spend a lot of $$$ for heads, cam, supercharger and whatever. But for a lot less $$$ you can get gears and converter and be very happy. You might even be happy with just converter and tune. I promise you it will feel like you added a lot more hp without the expense

Why don't you check and see what it would cost to have a 3.15 rear gear installed. That will wake up your car(and use a little more gas).

you might consider having a higher stall TC installed although the gear change will put less wear & tear on the car.

Remember as noted above you will NOT get your mod money back when you sell the car .... mods are for YOU not the next buyer of your car.

Dave, you live not very far from one of THE best corvette tuners on the west coast. Get in touch with Tom Wong and see what he might recomend for you. Many of us in the PNW have had him tweek our vettes ( all generations) and everyone comes away looking like this ---->

PS really like the look of your vette.

No regrets. I dropped close to $17K in mods on my 06 right after the warranty expired.
