On star

It slides to the right a couple of inches, then comes off the brackets. You can disconnect the wires, tape them, and tuck up under the W/S trim.
Most people report it takes a good push to move the box to the right, mine required placing a 1" dowel against the left side of the unit and using a hammer to smack it to the right. I waited for warm weather to do this...
The antenna box is now stored in my rear cubby, so I could reinstall it and activate Onstar if I desired that on a road trip. But don't plan to do that...

Removing just the Onstar antenna box did not seem to do anything except prevent Onstar from communicating with the Mother Ship. Nav, AM, FM, XM, Bluetooth, PAL + Ipod; all work normally.
I'm told that if you actually remove the Onstar module hidden elsewhere in the car, the engine won't even start. No personal experience there...

Yeppers, You can unplug the unit back in the cubby while the car is running and all is OK. Turn the car off and no cranky any more while unplugged.
?????
I may just opt for no onstar.... tape up the wires....

OT: Have to say I was on the fence concerning OnStar.
Then back in February my wife's in downtown Milwaukee for a late business dinner. She's driving two colleages back to their hotel when a jamoke runs a stop light, T-Bones her Cad CTS-4 directly between the front & rear doors on the driver's side.
I couldn't believe the air bags & curtains that deployed, but NOT the steering/passenger ones. While these things destroyed the interior, it's also a miracle no one was hurt a'tall, too.
Point is before she realized WTH had just happened OnStar was calling asking what assistance was needed. If anyone hurt etc. They'd automatically contacted MPD immediately with the exact location via GPS. Pretty handy for one in unfamiliar territory, for sure.
I might've been on the fence about OnStar once, but not anymore for obvious reason(s).

Despite the rampant OnStar paranoia encountered here on the forum I also feel OnStar provides some useful and valuable features.

As I said before the interior was thoroughly trashed, the side bags in the seat cause the seat's stitching to simply disintegrate; meaning, not only does one need new seats but probably have to have a "core exchange" (ie, old seat) or get REALLY soaked.
I truely appreciate all the safety built into today's cars, no doubt about that; however, it all does come at quite a cost, also.
It was only about 95 that day so i am wondering if this is common. I pushed it back on and it held all the way home. I thought these were attached with epoxy or something stronger?
honestly 95 is just starting to get hot here so I guess I will constantly be pushing it back on.
