No Doubt!!! they are the one's making money with all the fee's they charge! There would be some real deals on the non television days, but add the 8% buyers premium!

Isn't it 10% now? And 10% for the seller as well?
Definately BJ is getting the better end of the deal.
Yeah the new fee's are 10% Buyers if you are onsite and 12% if you are offsite!! The Sellers is still 8% and of course the other pre sale fee's!! Guess I'm in the wrong business.
I work at a bank and I am a workout guy, so I have done my share of liquidating over the 38 years in my job. I am finding that these days, most auctioneers charge a buyer's premium, it's a way of life. The trick is to find an auctioneer that has a good following and will bring top dollar (or near it) for the item. B - J seems to do both well, from my prospective. However, I do have to admit it is fun watching some of these fools trying to outbid other fools on a car that either has a "hemi", or that has been somehow "touched" by C. Shelby. Think about where these prices were 2 or 3 yrs ago, and where they are now.
I go every year (10 now) and always get free tickets (Ford dealers, Chevy dealers, etc.) free parking, free shuttle service, free bottled water (Bridgestone booth) and $4 brats (U.S. Army booth/food cart)... so Craig Jackson is not really getting much from me or the other 8 friends I always go with. I also live 3.5 miles from the venue.
I went on Tue. to preview... Corvette Racing Had a great booth that I am going back to on Thur. and will take pix.
I have to admit, I do enjoy watching some of the bidding wars as well! But as auctioneers it is in their best interest to get as much as they can for every car, as the premiums are based on the hammer price. The Vegas auction around Christmas was one of the best as far as buyers go, some good deals were had at that one.
I Went last year to Scottsdale. Did not go with the intention of buying anything, just wanted to experience the "greatest car show on earth", and it did not disappoint. So much to do and see, even my wife, who is not the biggest car person had a great time. Best part was, everyone there is a car person in some way. We met people from all over the world and everyone had a great story to share. Would highly recommend it to anyone and hope to go again someday.
Are these the ones I've been reading about in the Phoenix area? What channel are the shows on? I live east of Phoenix and was thinking about going but I think the TV version all pared down for easy viewing would be better.
I have Directv, if someone else has it and has a channel number and time that would be great!
I Agree! I'm flying down this weekend; it's my second year in a row. If you can go, it's a whole lot of fun!

TIA!
NOTHING beats seeing it in person. WAY more than just the auction. Total cool car & stuff overload.
I've been to Barrett-Jackson years ago in the early '90's, and the it is 10 times the show now compared to then. They do a good of marketing and vetting the cars. Expenses are substantial so I do not begrudge them their fees.
The bidder fees and seller's costs are part of any big auction, although I know that some of the big auction houses will waive seller's fees or will negotiate to get interesting cars on their stage. I used to attend the Kruse Auburn auction every year. I knew sellers for whom fees were waived just to fill out the venue and get an original Cobra or something unique there for all to see. Speaking of costs, I belevie that Kruse is now out of business. They had many problems, including trust issues, that Barrett-Jackson does not have.
