Ok, so I was all set to pull the trigger on JetStream Blue
when my trusty paint shop guy (the guy who has been doing not only my Vettes but does a LOT of Vettes) tells me that JSB is a very special "tri-layer" paint and, in the event of chip or other paint repairs, can't be done correctly and requires a complete reshoot of the car. Something about the color layer is actually the first one with 3 more coats over it and that's why it appears so deep. But the thickness above the color layer has a major effect on the color, hence why an area can't effectively be blended in.
As this would be my DD (and I would do a clear bra in all the critical places) and is a widebody, it has me thinking a bit about my color choice. 'Cause we all know chips and other nasties ARE going to happen.
Anyone with a JSB care to offer an opinion?
Ken

Color
Your info is real accurate sorry to say. I painted some things on my car and it was extra for "blending" and he had to paint a lot more then what was needed in order to match the color perfect. But I wouldn't change the color. It is awesome and I get many compliments on it all the time. Good luck. I did clear bra on the bumper, chin spoiler in front and side skirts. I had my side skirts and chin spoiler painted and my lower valence and they matched it with no problem, no extra money. But for some reason when they painted the front of the car they had to do from the doors forward.

JSB is indeed a special color and reason why it cost $850 more as a option. However, I dont think a paint chip would require a entire reshoot of the car. We have forum vendors painting JSB ZR1 spoilers and splitters that they claim to match on delivery. If your statement was true we would be hearing compliants about it by now. I do agree that having to repaint a body panel JSB to match requires a high level of expertise and experience, but its doable.

Totally Doable. I have done a rear widebody and front widebody separetly and both times the paint has perfectly matched. Get yourself a GOOD shop and it can be done, no blending here

The same thing was true with mag red. The paint shop said they had to paint and additional panel on each side of the panel being painted.
I took delivery on a JSB GS last month and, frankly, I don't care if it's hard(read expensive) to paint. Prettiest blue I've ever seen on a car!

Yep - special work - but that's why they catch your eye!
I just traded my Millennium Yellow (yellow tint in clear coat) for a JSB!
Do not be afraid, grasshopper!

I have a JSB Coupe. I remember when I ordered the car i also had an agreement for the Body Shop to paint the Fuel Rails JSB for $100. When the car came in and they went to order the paint they found out the paint and materials would be $300 w/o labor. So I passed and bought the painted fuel rails from RPI for a lot less. So, Its an expensive paint...

Thanks for the all the comments, folks.
But I would also like to know about how well (or badly?) JSB hides swirl marks and other inevitable marks?

Not sure how surface marks would be any worse than any other color. Best thing is to be careful to avoid them.
JSB has a slight color shifting effect from different angles so slight differences may even be less noticeable, especially from more than 5 ft away. For me it looks best under a bright blue sky.
But if you are really worried, may be best go with a different color if you will be sensitive to any blemish.
Silver has always been the easiest for me to maintain and doesn't show dirt like some other colors.
