Everyone on the other boards are laughing their wazoos off about the 50th Vette. It's a big joke to them. Check the Viper boards. The 50th Vette is the laughing stock to people who really know what sport cars are supposed to be, especially one's that make it to 50.
Much like how everyone is laughing their ***** off at the 3rd generation Viper's styling. I'd like to see what the 50th anniversary of the Viper looks like. Oh wait, it'll be lucky to last that long.
Straight line acceleration is not the only measure of a sports car. You're thinking of muscle cars (extinct at the moment) and pony cars (Mustang, Camaro, Firebird). The Miata is a fine sports car for its price range and it has crappy 1/4 mile times.
I'll go where the horsepower is.
Then buy a Peterbilt Model 379 with a Cummins Diesel Signature 600 HP engine. That'll show those pesky vipers who the boss is.
[/My expectations were too high for the 50th - my fault. I forgot that "Anniversary Editons", and "Collector Editons" are mostly marketing hype. Just an opportunity for manufacturers to capitalize on a percieved major event and try and stimulate sales. They usually just amount to a trim packages - some even boring. My bad.
I agree here -- have waited this out for the 50th think it would be something special. I could own 2001 or 2002 and have been enjoying it all this time. Shame on me -- My expectations were too high for the 50th. Guess I will see what kind of deal I can get on a 2002 or 2003 -- the wait is over!
Oooooops, I thought this was the C6 discussion area. Sorry.
Well it was supposed to be but we have to wait til 06 to find out what it's gonna be like. So until then this is the future of the corvette (and its competition) discussion area. And more importantly, the 50th they gave us sucks. Period. They should have done SOMETHING to make it a collector's car. Do you know what we call people who collect cars with nothing special but stickers? Ricers!! They could have done anything they wanted to make the car better and more desirable, but no they gave it stickers instead.
Once again, in case the English language escapes you, raw horsepower does not a fine car make.
Three times. That's how many times you've said that now. Thanks Yoda...for someone who has such a great understanding of the english language, you really should work on your sentence structure...
For being a self-taught amateur I think my design turned out pretty good. I will take your advice and go to school first before I quit my job. Oh, and I didn't realize you were such a design expert either.
Jason....
Think you just proved my point ... attacks on an individuals talent or abilities really isnt appropriate. Didnt make you feel very good .. did it ??? Thats why all the criticisms of Dave Hill , Tom Peters etc...IMHO are way out of line.....In your post you wondered what gave me the right to critique and comment on your sketch.. Isnt it the same as what has been posted about the guys at GM ? Alot of people comment on them and dont seem to have first hand knowledge of what it actually takes to get a vehicle on the road. Questioning their professional ability as way of venting their disappointment
in the car is just wrong.
I apologize if i was harsh... just proving a point .. thats all....
By the way.......
Im not such an amatuer .... your perspective was a bit off.. other than that... it wasnt so bad.. ;)

Anywho. Maybe you should get a 50th. You seem to be the type of customer they were targeting. As for everyone laughing a the Viper, I'm not sure what you are talking about. I lot of people have critized it's styling, but nobody laughs. Over 8L of displacement ain't funny at all. Over 500hp doesn't make me laugh. If you don't consider the Viper a great sports car, then you are in blind denial. I see that mentality all the time. If you have less hp than me, I am better than you because I have more horsepower. But if you have more hp than me, I am better because I have dual climate control or my seats are better or my Momma can drive it or I turn .01 more G on the skidpad. The Viper has been the Big Doggie for years now, and Chevy has done very little to try to dethrone it. I won't own another Vette until it is the fastest, most powerful American sports car produced. I have always loved Vettes, but I am tired of making excuses. :)
Couldn't agree with you more, Godsil. If GM were to offer this "53 C-5" I'd order one in a hot second. As it is, we're faced with a slightly different C-5 with a slightly different color, and slightly different badging.
This all smells like, "Well, guys, let's sell as many of these C-5s as we can and stretch the run out as long as the C-3, hopefully."
For a milestone as significant as 50 years, we should be seeing the C-6. GM built a great car in the C-5, but I feel this is downright insulting.
I know at least one person who has cancelled his order for the 50th Ann. car, telling me he was so disappointed he couldn't go through with it.
I do like the car, for a Corvette, not the 50th Anniversary model. I would have like to have seen something like this. Maybe not to this extreme but at least some different body work that would say, "I'm special. I've been around longer than anybody!" It looks like they just remembered that it has been here for 49 years already and quickly put someone on the project 6 months ago. I think they should have been working on it 6 years ago. This type of milestone doesn't come around very often, I mean look at Ford, they are producing the GT40 to commemerate 100 years and Cadillac the same with the Cien. What does the Corvette get, something that I feel should get more fanfare, since it is easier to have a company around for 50 years or so compared to one product, a redesigned 40th Anniversary car? Come on, at least have it in the original colors or maybe a shade of Gold. I am the only person that thinks that 50 years is quite an accomplishment?
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
