The weather is warming and dry - and my aotu mechanic is looking at the DVD for installation of my Boyo VTL-425 camera and Lockpick 360 system. I hope to get it done soon.

I will be putting the Boyo on through my Kenwood Nav/audio system as soon as my new GS arrives. TPW 2/21/11. Getting ancy if you know what I mean.
If you dont mind me asking, what is the approximate cost a system like that?
I don't mind at all. The original cost was $1,300.00 for the Kenwood and $179.00 for the Boyo through Crutchfield. Last May they went on sale and I got both for about $750.00. I love the Kenwood unit because it has the Garmin GPS, touchscreen, and is great for my iTouch. The iTouch plugs in right by my right hand in the center console and plays through the screen with all the info showing on the screen with touch control there.
Let me know if you need more info.

So what would I need with the factory nav unit? The Boyo camera and a lockpick?

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that. I felt all along that the Kenwood (and many other nav units) were superior to the Corvette one. They simply have come to the table with too little too late imho. In my case I needed a unit with a dvd screen capability in order to run the Boyo unit. I got the Boyo from Crutchfield and they talked me through it. Where did you get your backup unit and will they help you with installation? If you haven't gotten the Boyo camera yet give Crutchfield a call and they will walk you through the marriage of the Corvette nav unit and the Boyo if they are compatible.

I assumed I'd get a Pioneer maybe I should reconsider. What model Kenwood do you have?

I got the Kenwood DNX9140 with the Boyo VTL400 (separate) rear camera. However, remember that was in May of 2010 and I got it on sale as it was already superceeded. Still, a great unit for nav and iTouch/iPod use.

I think they are useless. I have already backed up and going forward before the radio finishes loading. Just my $.02. I think its pretty useless on my Tahoe and Truck too but I think they are totally useless on a Vette.

You may be right! I got a good deal and haven't put the back up camera in yet but "according to the directions" and the Crutchfiled people the dang thing is supposed to go immediately to camera picture whenever I shift into reverse. Just trying to improve what I find is a problem whenever I back into a parking spot (cause I don't want my front to hit on a curb) or some other area and can't seem to judge the distance. Just me but I'll post the results. Should have checked with the Corvette forum before I got it. Oh well, live and learn here in the "Live Free or Die" state.

Thanks. That sounds like a great deal. I am not concerned about getting the latest version so much and I am not really concerned how good the Nav is. I really want something that controls the iPhone easily (showing the playlists, tracks, etc.) and fits in the vette very well.
Can the back-up camera be used with the stock Nav/Radio ??
You can use the back-up camera with the stock radio with the lockpic, mine was not that hard to install, just a little scary taking the radio apart! The camera comes on instantly when you shift to reverse, and you can turn it on @ any time with the remote.

You and I have a different opinion on that one. Mine loads pretty quick and is useable b4 I back out of the garage. I have a Kenwood DNX7100 and a Boyo cam. I know you don't have kids, but if and when you do there will come a time when they leave their little tricycle/bicycle or other bs toy right behind your car, not visible as you approach from the front and then thumpity thump. That is one of the reasons I wait the extra couple of seconds it takes to come up on the screen, saving that 2 seconds or so makes absolutely no difference to my trip times.

I have a Kenwood DNX6960 and a Boyo back-up camera and my camera comes on instantly; the moment I put the shift lever into reverse. It does not require that the audio unit boot up before the camera activates.
