I have an automatic and sometimes it gets stuck in park,I generally get it out of park after a few tricks, but is this a common problem with automatics in the C6?
It's common enough that there was another thread on it here in the last few days. Dealer had to replace the shifter on my automatic C6 when I had the problem. Other causes and solutions have been mentioned here over the last year or so.

My car is not under warranty,so i am assuming your car was under warranty? and you got an idea of how much it would cost to replace the shifter because i would have to pay out of pocket to replace it.
I had the same problem last May on my '05 A4.
I 'hammed handed' the shifter out of park (on level
ground) and the 'stealership' had to replace the
shifter assy and the cable.
Seems as there is a plastic piece that breaks (or
comes loose) and causes the problem.
This could be the shift lock getting hung up.Look around the shifter area for something that says 'shift lock override".Pop the little cover and take a flat head screw driver and gently push down in there while your foot is on the brake and at the same time shifting the gear lever.

didn't you JUST buy your car? if so, this should be taken back immediately! why? I'll find the post and add it below; you could be looking at $1K+ if it's as bad as this fellow's shifter problems.

Sounds about right. I paid $900 (+/-) for the shifter, cable and dealer's labor. One bad thing is that once its 'broken', you can't get it back into park and engage the security system. (It will start without the FOB!) The battery drains quickly too. Mine died in the five days it took to get the parts and do the work.
