For DD I have a Optima Red Top (if you store you vette & use a battery tender then go with the Yellow Top.) Optima batteries are reliable and fast starting. They are gel so they're maintenance free & won't leak - however they're heavy.
This is the third....i have currently an interstate and I am starting to get some crazy things happening when it goes a few days.....I have bought a tender and when its fully charged its fine....I have read several posts on this type of issue so I beleive a good quality battery is the way to go....Its not a DD so I am thinking an Optima and the Tender should be the way to go....and to the guy inquiring on the interstate....I wouldnt go there.....if it ever drains completely like what happened to me...I dont think it would ever be the same and thats when my little issues started happening. Its either optima or oem...but I am heavily leaning torwards Optima....and it seems yellow top is the way to go.....I appreciate all feedback my corvette brotherin can offer!
Just installed an Optima Red Top #35..Differences between the Red and Yellow Top Optima...The Red has more Cranking Capacity in Rated Amps than the Yellow, ( check specs) however, the Yellow has more Reserve Capacity for handling added electronics like DVD players and aftermarket electronics. The install is straight up simple and both are direct replacements. Bases Vettes take the 35 Red series or D35 Yellow...the "D" stands for deep cycle. Optima will tell you the Yellow Top is NOT necessary on the Corvette. Suggest you DO use a battery maintainer if you leave the car parked for extended periods.
I was leaning heavily torwards the optima just wasnt sure red top or yellow top....but the yellow does go with VY Vert......So why yellow over red?
Price mostly...the RED Top is actually the stronger battery for starting capacity...the YELLOW Top has more reserve capacity that benefits you if you aftermarket electronics ( higher than normal current demand). To me, the smart money is on the RED Top...more battery for what you need a battery to do...start the car...for less money. Check the Optima specs...
Good call....after comparing both head to head....your right for my use the red top is better for cranking and cheaper at 172 shipped for free....plus with my battery tender i should be in great shape...thanks for saving me 30 dolllars!

My pleasure, I couldn't be happier with my Red Top Optima. Fits like a glove...permanently installed a connector for the Schumacher trickle charger using ( 5 mm?? ) nuts I found in my loose nuts and bolts stock. They fit perfectly on the extended bolts from the factory battery cables, now when I want to hookup the battery on the tender just slip the cord through from under the car, plug the charger lead into the battery...charger into the 110v outlet and cover QKSLVR back up and let'er do its maintenance thing. Battery remains healthy and life is good.
