Ed what paint did you spray the trim rings with? I am getting ready to spray a set and you can probably save me some time experimenting.
Your are flat right?
I Rob,
This time I went with Duplcolor, semi gloss black. I think the flat black is too dull.
When I did my 2006 I used Krylon Outdoor spaces satin black. I was worried about getting runs while trying to get good coverage in the recesses for the lights. (you really have to try hard to get Krylon to run)
I had more confidence in my spraying ability this time.
I prepared the rings by sanding them with one of those sponge rubber sanding block, which is very course. Probably around a 150 to 200 grit. I then used Duplicolor primer, which smoothed the finish out. I left the primer cure for a day then finished with satin black. I didn't do any prep work, other than cleaning on the inside of the rings since they were already flat black. I just sprayed right over top of that.
The plastic liner I just roughed up with 400 paper wet. No primer.
I allowed the final finish to air dry for a week before gluing them back together. It took that long before I could just barely smell the fresh paint with my nose right on it.
I think it amusing that Chevy puts black door handles and black high mounted third brake lights on the Vette to save money, yet charges $650.00 to give you black headlight bezels rather than bodied colored ones on anything other than a black Vette. Can you say "sock it to me?"

What I think is amusing is that if all our cars came stock with black headlights like the door handles and rear spoiler we'd be complaining that we couldn't order body color headlights. And we'd be figuring out how to tear into them and paint them body color. People that mod there vehicles just have to be different/unique, myself included.

Damned straight. I want my car as unique as I am, but better looking.
