Can anyone share their experience or pics of a textured plastic piece wrapped with carbon fiber vinyl?

I am considering wrapping various interior bits of my '02 Camaro's interior (too chicken to experiment with the Z06) but the most of the interior plastic has a fairly textured "grain", and from what I've read about wrapping parts with standard vinyl, people recommend sanding the substrate. I suppose that I can buy some sacrificial interior parts from Ebay, but thought that I would ask first.

If it was cleaned well and primered I would think it would do just fine. Are you thinking of the upper console and radio bezel?

How did you guess? I am also looking to update the door panels, I have a "leather" interior and the door panels have a cheap vinyl insert that needs help.

If things go well, I would go crazy and do the A pillar trim too.

Any pics of this stuff with a clearcoat? I'd be interested to see it on a roof...

Scotchprint 1080 "black carbon fiber" vinyl installed on a fiberglass ZR1 splitter.

don't know if this will help but I had my all 04 Z06 wrapped in Matt Black with the 3M, I asked the wrapping company to use the 3M as I liked the satin finish, they told me the 3M wasn't really good to curve...

after 2 month the vynil started to shrink, the stress done on the vinyl on all the curve, meanly rear bumper and top made the vinyl shrink and we could see up to 3mm of paint in the body panel joint.

The company tried to get the money back from 3M as its suppose to be warranty but didn't, they finaly rewrapped the all car using Avery vinyl and all went fine, never moved and got even a better finish than the 3M.

I'm looking to have my vert 05 wrapped but for sure will not use 3M anymore...

hope this help

Which model material shrank? They have a few application materials...
Also what elements is your car exposed to, is it a DD or garage queen?

I'm seriously considering wrapping the vette in 1080 matte silver (below) leaving a black roof halo splitters rear fascia diffuser spoiler mirrors and wheels...

The Di-Noc product was never meant for exterior auto applications - that is why 3M introduced the the new 1080 Scotchprint product which also comes in full 60 inch wide sheets to cover roofs and hoods in one piece.

It is thinner, does curves better and stays put.

I think the shop who did your work should not have used the Di-Noc on the exterior of the car.

Man that would be Soooo different - but I wonder about the long term care of it. If you only drive on bright sunny days it would probably be OK, but repeated rain, dirt and dust might take a toll....

I was just quoted by a local auto advertising company to do my whole vette in CF for $4200. Is this price outrages or what? I live in Houston, I don't know any companies that does this work. I don't know the material they are using, but for that price I'll pass. They also said they can do the hood only for $600. Any thoughts?

I went pretty crazy with the stuff and wrapped a bunch of miscellaneous stuff plus engine bay interior etc in my Z06, check it out!
I had to join this forum just to say thanks for these pics. I was banging my head against a wall trying to find a good wrap to use for a laptop and couldn't decide between the di noc and scotch print and ended up choosing the scotchprint thanks to your pics. just ordered, so fingers crossed everything comes out well. but all your pics really helped a lot.
