Did I say it was null and void for you? Null and Void for people who don't track their car.

"Do you track your car? If not then your answer is null and void."
Obviously you were talking about me and what I do with my car. Your own words prove you're full of it!

Where does the OP say he doesnt or wont be tracking his car? Where does he say he wont be making repeated hard stops anywhere? Or the other members who took part in this discussion? Or those that read without posting. You speak for all them also?
The post I quoted and agreed with was in regards to ceramics not being up to par when very hot and can cause poor or dangerous stopping, whether tracking or not. There are those members that heat up the brakes pretty damn good on the street, enough to cause fade with ceramics.
Maybe you should N&V your obnoxious self.

Gee NYC6, you need to get over yourself...EVERYBODY (except you) know ceramic brakes are great for street use. Boo hoo, get lost.

I did mine at about 6K and happy that I did it.
Hard to believe that GM does not make them standard.

You're the one who said everybody, genius.

If you are getting your brake temps above 950 degrees on the street, about what ceramics are good for, I don't want to be on the same street.

Please help a newb out that needs to replace brake pads, I have z-51 brakes and would love to loose the brake dust but don't want to sacrifice performance. How hard to you have to ride ceramics to make them fade and if the get that hot will they do damage to the rotors. Also do I need to replace the rotors too? Any ceramics that won't fade with heat?

Also is pad replacement an easy DIY? How bout rotors?

From Op ...

I do not track the car as it is a daily driver.

After reading and researching, the ceramics seemed like the best choice. For vets, doesn't the zr1 come from the factory with ceramics?

two cents worth from tirerack:

For daily drivers, IMO, ceramic pads are worth it!

Good opinion, and valid.

From what I read, I do not think ceramics have a heat fade problem in daily driving. Even in panic stops there is no fade relative to the heat issue and tests have shown they may actually work better for safety because they improve responses to the computer controlling a panic stop.

But for racing on a track, that is another issue.

Not valid to this thread, op wasn't talking about tracking his car.

The ZR1 has Carbon Ceramic disks, not to be confused with ceramic pads. Carbon ceramic disks can withstand much more heat than iron rotors and weigh 50% less.

950 degrees on the street! Someone is canyon racing or drives with their foot on the brake pedal all of the time. Typical temperatures for the Los Angeles new car road test during rush hour is 250 to 550 degrees averaging 350. Operating ranges for an OE ceramic brake pad is 100 to 600 degrees. After that wear ability increases at a very high rate. 90% of the typical Corvette owners will not see any higher temperatures than 500. GM's largest supplier of friction is a ceramic pad which includes all of their 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck platforms.
You do get what you pay for with brake pads. Do not expect the same performance from a $20 pad and a $50 pad. Ceramics should not be used for any track time unless you are just putting around on the track.

Are you saying that my base C6 has ceramic pads? If so, I'm good with that.
