Default Windshield Question ...

Have 6-7 pits in windshield. At first, I thought is was paint specks, took a single-edged razor and discovered they were in fact, pits. Can't really see them from inside the car; only noticeable after a wash and in direct sunlight. How can these be repaired (filler, etc.) and anyone have a similar experience??? Thanks.

If they are truly small pits, I believe your only option is to replace the windshield (if it bothers you that much...)

I had my first one and like yours it was small. My auto glass place it was to small to fill. It's still there, I got use to it and it hasn't gotten any bigger. Yet. Good Luck

I have several in my second windshield. My first one probably had 50+. It really sounds like it breaks when those stones hit at 70 MPH.

The choices are: Keep it perfect in the garage or drive it and accept whatever happens.

Auto glass places can do a pretty good repair, the fill in the pit with epoxy and then use a razor blade, holding it flush against the glass, scim off the excess "hump" of epoxy making level with the glass

You could contact a reputable glass repair company or you might even check with an optometrist. I believe they sell solutions for 'polishing' eye glasses that might help eliminate your pits.

Minor windshield pitting (and worse) is to be expected if you actually drive your car. If you don't notice the pits from inside the car and they're barely visible when you're outside the car....why worry about it? IMO wait until you have more serious dings or cracks and then get the windshield repaired or replaced (always carry full glass coverage on your insurance).

IS there a film type product for use on the windshield that anyone has had good luck with, like Ventureshielf for your windshield, basically?

Chips are to be expected with use of the car. As has been stated there is a repair option. The repair uses a clear epoxy that is smoothed to the point you can barley notice the repair. As has also been mentioned if the pit is too small the repair can't be done in that manner. A reputable glass shop can polish the glass to the point that small pits and scratches can be removed.

If you have comprehensive and the glass gets too bad you are covered. Some States have a no deductible clause concerning front windshield damage. I don't think small pits would be covered, but pits that cause forward vision problems or any break would be covered.

To find the best glass shop in your area check with your dealer's body shop to see who they use to change out glass.
