That is nasty, but I'm still surprised it would cost that much to fix. The only thing I can think of was that besides the obvious damage, it got flooded inside and they treated it like any other flood car.

The body damage and replacing the seats and interior carpet wa $19,500. The hood, rear decklid, and the rear quarters had cracks that you don't see in the pictures. The front quarters obviously had holes in them. The car was totalled once they took the dashboard off. It had glass and water down in the dash, and they would have had to replace both front airbags.
