This should be a great reminder for us all to torque those nuts. Especially after a few hundred miles on new cars. Those aluminum wheels like to shake the jug nuts loose!
For 99% of lugnuts I know they say tighten to 98lbs/ft. Haven't read up on what it is for corvettes....but back with Ford I knew they said 100, but what was the most widely recommended was 98. Had an issue with a lug seizing on my BRAND new True Forged wheels when I torques them to 100 (believe it or not).
Actually it's not. Not sure how to abbreviate it but it's lbs/ft. As in pounds feet. Force times distance is correct.
You are wrong!!! Lbs/ft is force value divided by a distance value or force per unit of distance. The correct term of expression for torque can be either lbs-ft or ft-lbs. Torque is a force applied over a unit of distance which is force multiplied by the distance (lever arm). Go look at your owner's manual for torque values and I promise you it will not be expressed as lbs/ft or lbs/in.

WOW!!! Where do you get a torque wrench that is accurate to 2% and how much would it cost?

It depends on what kind of vehicle you drive. Lighter vehicles with smaller wheels/tires/studs or heavier trucks with larger wheels/tires/studs are different. I could be in trouble if I torqued the lug nuts on my 3/4 ton, 4WD Suburban to 100. If memory serves correct I torque the lug nuts on my Suburban to 140 lb-ft. Here's a chart showing general recommended torque values:
7/16" dia. 50 to 60 lb-ft
12mm dia. 70 to 80 lb-ft
1/2" dia. 80 to 90 lb-ft
5/8" dia. 110 to 125 lb-ft
FWIW I would not go with what's "widely recommended." I would always defer to what the manufacturer specifically recommends.
