Default Ticket

OK, Guys/Gals, need help here. Have owned Vert for 9mn got one ticket, ok my bad 8miles over I,ll pay. Today in right lane merged, everyone wasdoin 65 in the 55. Car on left is passing me slowly, Im 8 car back from 18 wheeler (whos doin 60+) and I get tagged by laser? Keep in mind I was still in right slow lane. Vert is Black and shinny? So 2 tickets now do I fight this one based on profiling sports cars that bling?

If you would have been doing the speed limit this would not be an issue. Just because everyone else is speeding does not mean you should be...you got caught, just pay.

I dunno. Maybe try and get it reduced to a less serious moving violation with no points going on the license?

It might be better to pay an attorney to help you get it reduced to something else IF it will help protect the insurance costs.

Sometimes its hard not to get them going faster than intended.

yeah, sometimes life sux that way. i tried to fight the first ticket i ever got because of something like that. unfortunately, the judge was pretty sure a 16 yr old was doing 27 over. honestly, you can either try to fight it, pay it or get one of those traffic lawyers. you will have better results getting the 8 mph over than the other, depending where it was (hwy vs street). good luck. and 1st ticket after 9 months, impressed.

I do believe that our cars have a target on them for speeding tickets. I was lasered twice already this year. Luckily I was doing the speed limit but both times I also had other cars passing me. Sometimes these cars attract unwanted attention.

Had this happen to me once in my wife's Mazda Miata.I was in a long line of cars, something like 6t or 7th in line all doing the exact same speed. Cop was sitting in median on curve, he laser-ed me, pulled me over and said I was 7 over. I said ok, but lets give everyone else the same ticket. Told him I haven't had any speeding tickets in at least 10 years, here's my license, go check it out. He came back and let me off. Got a lecture, was trying to do his best Barney Fife.
But to your point, anyone driving something different, shiny, sporty, whatever is a target. Maybe like other op said, try to fight and get no points or at least reduced to something else.

I am a retired LEO and my advise is to always fight the ticket. If the officer does not appear you plead not guilty and request the judge to dismiss for lack of prosecution.

Best thing to do is get an attorney-will cost you the same in the end, but no points.

The main objective is to keep it off your insurance which will runs you 3X the cost of a lawyer in the long run.

It does not hurt to be kind, truthful and respectful to the LEO, most will appreciate someone who does so.

I got caught years ago in my C5 in a similar situation. I'm in the far right lane on a 3 lane highway behind another car. A third car was passing BOTH of use in the 2nd lane. LEO "steps out" from and underpass and nails me for doing 67 in a 55. I was very polite and contrite (I knew I was speeding) but I asked the cop how come he didn't stop the car I was following, or the car that was passing us. His reply was "I didn't get them, I got you." Can't argue with that logic.

That was my 4th stop in a year in my C5 (one other for speeding and two for "no front license plate"). After that I bought a Valentine One, and put on a front plate. Have been stopped in my vettes only once since then and that was because I had my temporary tag on the rear window of my new vert and the top was down. The cop let me off with a warning, my first one ever!!!

My sons are always getting speeding tickets and what they do is call the Asistant DA where they got the ticket and get them to reduce to a non moving violation. They don't care, all they want is the money. It works for them everytime. But it does cost them extra sometimes.

Well, maybe the former LEO can explain how a traffic cop can pick one car out of a line of cars going the same speed.

The posters on here have a point. I mean is the LEO reading all those cars as they go by?

Ahhh... so you're in Portland. I taught school in Eugene when I first got out of grad school. I don't remember the LEOs being particularly strict but that was a long time ago. Maybe it's just in your immediate area.

Black isn't know to be a ticket color, at least in the way red and yellow have been demonized. I think it just comes down to bad luck. You were in the wrong place at the right time. Not much you can do to avoid lidar (laser) unless you want to install a laser jammer.

Last year I forgot something that my attorney once told me: "fight every ticket" and I just paid it without thinking. Darn. (That was my first ticket in 44 years!)
