Sad story. I'm working in Richmond Va for 6 months, my 2010 GS is in storage back home. However, my Corvette club(shout out for Tulsa Vette Set) is heading to Tail of the Dragon in the end of May. Who rents corvettes in Va or NC so I can join them without a metal car?
Supposedly, Tail of the Dragon is not what it used to be. I've seen several posts here during the last few months that indicated the LEOs have just about shut it down. Don't know if it's true or not.
Maybe some who live in the vicinity can shed some light on the subject.

I drove the Dragon last October and yes, the police were out in force monitoring speeds for motorcycles and sport cars. However, it is still a great run. Just be aware of the LEO's.
Dragon has lots of speed traps and even speed cameras now. I'd honestly avoid it.
If you looking to rent a Vette.. I know Hertz does at select locations. Its usually in warmer climates, and at airports (think Vegas, LA, Miami, Phoenix, TX). But thats a good place to start. They are in very high demand, I've never been able to find the one at Hertz in Vegas available for rent. But I've seen it being rented/turned in. Yellow & Black ZHZ design.

Can't help you with the Dragon, but Hertz still has ZHZ Vettes at some locations. They're in the process of retiring them as we speak, the coupes were '08 models, the convertibles are '09's. I've rented them at several Hertz locations LA, Vegas, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando (just last month in Orlando , for the Corvette Corral at Sebring, the ZHZ convertible had 41,000 miles on the clock). You can reserve them, but do it early, there aren't many available, and I don't know if they're getting new Vettes. Check the major Airport locations, they usually have the cars. I did have a Hertz rep tell me he'd heard they may be getting some new Vettes, but had no specific info. If the Vette thing doesn't work out, check out the new Hertz "Adrenaline Collection", they now rent the Mustang GT Premium, Camaro SS and Challenger RT at some locations, at least you won't be pedaling an Aveo or Prius.
The Tail of the Dragon now has speed cameras in purple boxes in the trees as told me by a friend that lives in Robbinsville. I live about 75 miles from it. Havent been there yet this year. Go to KillBoy.com and you can see pics and he tells alot of info on the site also on what is going on up there. Weekdays are the best, weekends it is full and full of crazy people and riders that have more car or bike then they can handle.
