Another side you may consider and it may or may not sway your decision.
Many upscale car dealerships seek out and provide space in their garages for invisible bra installers. I will guarantee you that if you visited a local MB or BMW or Porsche-Audi facility and asked a salesperson if they have someone to install the shields they will say yes and provide you a name. I asked at a BMW-Mini shop last week and it was the same installer who did my '08 VY coupe in 2007. He used an Avery-Dennison product and did a great job. I used a different installer for my '09 Z and he used 3M and he did a great job also.
I guess my point is the upscale shops want to keep their customers happy and wouldn't recommend and/or use shoddy people and materials.
Well, I have to admit I have no idea who in TX or CO would be a good choice as I am in Orygun! But I did find a local certified installer on the 3M website and then did my own due diligence as to their local reputation.
As for pics, you really can't see anything and that's the idea!
I understand. I am an installer so I know what your saying. I thought you were in Aurora, Colorado... thats why I asked about the installer. And I always love seeing pics of Vettes....
Ok so I'm considering a clear bra but I am very hesitant to do so.
Couple of questions and things to consider.
1) What is this film going to look like in 10 years? Is it going to be yellowish or cracked and nasty?
If left outside for years, it probably will. Ask yourself... do you really let it sit outside for long in the sun? Most of the newer formulations are very good not to yellow or crack.
2) Can you wax over it and still have a high gloss appearance like standard waxed paint?
Yup, just don't do it while the film is hot from the sun and don't use a 'cleaner' wax.
3) Is it permanent?
Realitively.
4) I hate seeing that line that looks like a HUGE scratch across the hood. Can you do the entire fenders like you can the hood? I have seen full hood coverage and half hood coverage.
There are always lines. Your installer is the key to hiding them. Don't use a wax that will dry white as the edges of the film will be defined.
The first question/concern is my biggest issue. How long has this stuff been around for? Id have to assume that UV light is going to affect this as well as just age.
Its been used in Military apps and motorhomes for 20+ years. I won't have another car without it.
Let me know what everyone thinks! I'm all ears!
Hib Halverson wrote a great review of clear automotive films, but the website where it was posted is gone. RIP IDAVETTE.COM!!!
Let me know if the link below doesn't work for you.
All - Superior Lexus WAS the dealer that Clear Bra recommends - however, "the guy" is no longer with them. So they have to retrain someone and its going to take weeks.
I'm looking for a recommendation of another installer in KC?
I did whole bunch of stuff on my Centennial Callaway GS vert. I'm always amazed at the tiny little rocks that get pulverized on the bumper. You get nervous and then hope there's no damage. And then........it just wipes off. Of the dozens of things I've done to this car, the bra is my favorite. It also gives me a great deal of peace of mind. Do it early and use a true professional. I saw a Maserati the other day and it looked like hell.
ken its nice to hear you are happy with the results. Would love to see some pics if you get time. Also would you mind PMing me who you went with on your install? I have a friend in Loveland who got a new Viper and wants some film installed I sent him. I do not know of any good installers in Colorado so open for suggestions... if you recommend him. Thanks.
Thom
Have your friend call Purifoy Chevrolet in FT. Lupton Co. They do not install but do have a guy that did mine and did a great job.
