My vote goes for the basic vette as being the nicest. I like the more streamlined look.

My guess that's not really the model GM wants to create sales for... it's a show piece, flag ship but how many folks have over a 100k to pay for a play toy? They need a lot more units sold and it's not going to happen selling ZR1's..... as a matter of fact it could hurt sales because some folks are going to say if they can't have the top dog of a particular model they don't buy one at all....

same thing at the corvette/chevy expo here in houston there were at least 3 different dealers there. and not one zr1 to seen. few days before i saw a dealership that had 2 outside covered in snow. i asked one dealer he said something about they brought a callaway instead since they sell 3 to 1 over the zr1. but damn not much of a CORVETTE EXPO without a zr1. very disapointing.

We had a ZR1 and a GS Vert at the show in Utah. The used car part of the show is taking a bigger space every year. Of course Ferrari/Bentley had some nice eye candy out there. MB/BMW/Mitsu were no shows.

I know Tulsa Ok isn't a big city compared to many others.

But in the auto show about a month ago there were NO GM DEALERS/CARS at the show. General talk was GM was not sending any of their traveling displays, and would not help fund the local dealers.

Probably fearful of giving people sticker shock who do not know they can get a Vette for around 50k.

sounds eerily similar () to the Washington area auto show...Ferrari, Lamob, Maserati, and Porsche decided they didn't need to "show up". I guess sales are good. Or maybe it's that they're afraid those nasty "wabbits" in elected office will take their CAR-rots away.

But Corvettes were there...

Things you learn in the pursuit of an undergrad business degree and polish up while finishing the MBA. Things like: Market segmentation; target market;market share; marketing strategy;public relations/advertising; contribution to profit etc etc etc.

I believe they are making the MOST money right now on the GS. It was a superb marketing success. Here's the thing: You see, the "cost of goods" aka "manufacturing cost" ( per unit ) for the ZR1 and Z06 are probably very high in relation to the selling price.

The selling price is what they charge the dealer. It is not based upon the msrp but rather on the actual retail selling prices of the cars ( the gulf widens monthly as msrp rises--see marketing strategy ).

Think about all the pricey components in both the Z06 and ZR1. Think about the relatively small number of units over with to amortize the development and tooling costs for these "special" components. This adds up to lower contribution to profit from both the Z06 and ZR1 regardless even with what seem high retail prices.

The GS was a grand coup because it combined the low cost of the basic narrow body engine and drivetrain with Z06 style body panels ( which probably cost about the same to make and install as narrow body panely ). Then add on outrageous almost comic things like convincing grown men that they need "hash marks" on their GS. This results in selling $3.00 worth of plastic tape for hundreds of dollars.

I expected to see the ZR1 or Centenial or a new color for 2012 at the show. Every year the GM Corvette at NY Auto Show lets me down with stale product. The is a better "Vette show" at Kerbeck or MacMulkin dealers every day. Porsche and BMW M both have 5x the Vette showing.

That said, the Aston Martin exhibit was nice.
