Default Track Question...

Does anyone know if and where you can track your vehicle? I am looking for a road racing course of some sort that would be fun and affordable for some friends... I live in the Chicagoland area, but will drive anywhere, within reason... Thank You.

There are bound to be a few places closer to you, but Brainerd International Raceway in Baxter, MN is awesome and probably about 540 miles from you. Several open track days each summer (Mondays). Driving school required, which is about 2 hours in the morning then some time with the instructor. After that, it's as many laps as you can get in. Two courses: 3.1 mile and a 2.5 mile. Both are excellent, but corvettes love the long course because it's got a mile long straight that you can really open up on....

Here's a link for the track: http://www.birperformance.com/

And a link for the way to get there: http://www.birperformance.com/

Hands down, the most fun you can have fully clothed......

Contact NASA (National Auto Sport Association, I think) to sign up for a track day in your area. A great organization! They have lots of free instruction and they group drivers according to experience level. Look for the HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience) info on their website.

Have fun with your car out there!

Most of the HPDE (High performance Driver Ed) events are run by car clubs, and most of them are not Corvete clubs. But usually they will allow other makes to enter, and you can have a great time.

Technically, it really is Driver Ed instead of racing school. But the principles are the same, and you will come away exhausted and a better driver. Even if you think you are an ace right now...

Checkout the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) and the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) websites to see if they hold events in your area. Do a search for road courses....there are websites that show most all racing venues in each state. Call the track and they can tell you which organizations use the track. Many car clubs sponsor open road course events. I recommend NASA or SCCA events. Be advised...road racing is addictive. You'll have a blast!

I did a local HPDE with these guys at NJ Motorsports Park. They are great. Check their website if anything local to you.

Road America is one of the most beautiful and scenic road courses in the world, and it's a wonderful drive from Chicago. I have tracked it with a friend - excellent experience. You have to pass tech inspection - I don't know exactly what that entails. Contact them - they're good people.

I highly recommend Road America! Elkhart Lake. Between Milwaukee and Green Bay. Beautiful road course. Many auto and motorcycle racers from all over the world LOVE this track. I was there last year for the AMA Superbike races. I will be going this year twice. Once for the bike races, and again in august for the Lemans race. Very special Corvette celebration the day after the Lemans race.
