Next Corvette Will Be Powered by Small, High-Revving Turbo V-8

OMG it's the end of the world! <sob>
I laugh at some of these comments.
I agree with GM's reasoning, they need to attract a new generation of vette owners, and like it or not, they have different ideas on powertrains. Some of you act like if it doesn't have a blue flame straight six, it's not a real corvette.
I've said it before, the next vette needs a drivetrain similar to what the GTR has. A twin turbo V8 that is efficient and revs to the moon sounds perfect. And it will have plenty of torque, that's the nature of turbos. It will need a transmission like what is being used on the L and P and N cars, and hopefully and AWD system to get the power down.
And, for those that can't handle that, there will be traditional V8's available. This covers both sets of buyers.

With the right turbo setup, this motor could very well have a broader torque curve than the LS3/LS7.
I for one am excited about this motor.. think 2JZ Supra. Hopefully GM doesn't skimp on the internals and goes with forged pistons and strong rods.. this thing could be a monster just waiting to be awakened with basic upgrades such as a boost controller, downpipe, etc. I can't wait to see what the aftermarket has in store for this motor.

I want to do at least 60 in first, but we'll need much more than 400 horses to beat the GTR. Doesn't the current Cadillac XLR already make 440 supercharged horses? So we've done that. Just do it again, and better.
For the rest of the car, think Lamborghini, not Mustang/Camaro. I don't want a puffed up marshmellow taxi-cab body design.

I'm glad that GM realizes the cavemen that want big blocks and carbs are dying off... i dont know how anyone can hate evolution after having a ls3.. and i think most of the people that hate the idea have never driven a turbo car.. amazing power.. and if they can pull 10k RPM... YES PLEASE!

With variable valve timing, turbos twin cams, 4 valves, yada yada. The power band will be much flatter.
The C6 doesn't wake up until 4 K.
Granted when it wakes up , uh uh
I'm thinking more like 8 K revs at most . They are smoking crack talking about 10K on the street.
Think the biggest issue for me is if they try to Euro the look of the Vette to the point of overkill.
I think the look of the C6 has a really great combination of Euro and domestic lines. Going to be very hard to follow without taking a step back or going into a goofy look.
