It would seem to me that considering what a Corvette costs, MSRP 50,000 plus, that GM should make it sound like something. My stock exhausts on the Ferraris are just light years ahead of the stock exhaust system on the Corvettes I've had, for sound. For a few dollars more or maybe not even the Corvette can sound alot better, stock. We have all spent the extra money on aftermarket exhaust systems to make it sound "better". Even mild to wild doesn't cut it. I know the Ferrari and the Corvette are VERY different cars, but for something as basic as an exhaust system the Vette leaves ALOT to be desired. One of the first things a Harley owner does is replace the factory exhaust pipes on his new bike. One of the first things a Vette owner does is to replace the factory exhaust system on his new Vette. To make it sound better. Go figure. IMHO
Just in case, I've got my flame suit on.
If you want that "Ferrari" sound, spend four to six times as much as the Corvette costs and buy a Ferrari.
If we want more 'tone', we can spend a grand and change it.
The same can be said for other facets of the car, from trim to seats to tires to yada, yada. The Corvette is a Corvette, and sounds OK to most folks.
GM finally figured out what a horrible mistake it was in 08 when they offered the NPP exhaust. ...... When I went to a roadcourse to race all of the porsche guys were making fun of the stock vette everytime it would pass (I was hanging out with them and laughing as well).
Shawn, you are fairly young and would know little of Corvette history. That V-8, generally routed through a reasonable exhaust system, sounds about as healthy at full throat as it has for the 44 years I've owned them. There have been options in the past, like the side pipes offered for a few years, but the sound is what it is. And as owners we've always had the option of changing the system.
Did you man up and race your Corvette as you stated you went to the track to do, then face the ridicule of the Porsche guys, or did you hide your identity as a proud Corvette owner and stay on the sidelines all day?

I'm on my second C6 now, and I'm convinced that you can make 'em louder, but you can never really make a C6 sound good.
Apparently it has something to do with the firing order, my '05 Mustang GT sounded so sweet bone stock (for a modern car), that I would sometimes hit the remote start just to hear it fire up as I was walking towards it across the parking lot.
I have the mild2wild on my GS, open is OK, but for me too loud to leave open all the time, and it's Impala quite when closed. I recently rigged it so that the flaps stay open just a bit in the closed position, I'm still fiddling with it, but seems like a decent compromise for most driving.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
