It would seem to me that considering what a Corvette costs, MSRP 50,000 plus, that GM should make it sound like something. My stock exhausts on the Ferraris are just light years ahead of the stock exhaust system on the Corvettes I've had, for sound. For a few dollars more or maybe not even the Corvette can sound alot better, stock. We have all spent the extra money on aftermarket exhaust systems to make it sound "better". Even mild to wild doesn't cut it. I know the Ferrari and the Corvette are VERY different cars, but for something as basic as an exhaust system the Vette leaves ALOT to be desired. One of the first things a Harley owner does is replace the factory exhaust pipes on his new bike. One of the first things a Vette owner does is to replace the factory exhaust system on his new Vette. To make it sound better. Go figure. IMHO
Just in case, I've got my flame suit on.
Better is on the ear of the beholder. I swapped out the exhaust on my 06 Coupe for a set of flow masters, and boy it sounded "better". And it drove me NUTZ after 15 minutes.
This time I'm just enjoying how it sounds out of the box. Sure, it could be louder, but I already know what I got under the hood. Don't need more rumble to remind me.
Not a big deal to me. Lots of choices to pick from aftermarket, much more than GM or any other manufacturer would ever make available. Sound is a personal thing, so what you think it should sound like and what I think it should sound like are probably vastly different. Let the aftermarket give people a choice. That's probably Harley's company opinion too.
I bought my GS with the NPP so I wouldn't have to make any exhaust mods. I also pulled the fuse. If you think the NPP is too mild, you may have too much wax build up in your ears.
I also bought the NPP and pulled the plug, the car sounds a lot better. I know some people complain about the drone with the plug pulled but i dont think its really that bad at all. I am coming from a GTO with full exhaust which was the same.
I daily drive 75 miles each way to/from work. You never appreciate a quiet exhaust until you commute and run into a traffic accident/construction/normal idiot drivers and it takes you 2.5 hours or more to get home. My longest drive home was on a holiday weekend where a major freeway was closed due to a stabbing on the side of the road, 4.75 hours.
Your goal must be different than mine...I do NOT want people to look at my vette or be able to hear it coming before it gets there. I speed ...a LOT. I do not enjoy cabin drone either.
My last vette had B&B Route 66 and they sounded good, not to loud and were fine at freeway speeds. My new Convert has stock original from the factory exhaust and I have decided it sounds just fine to me and I'm not going for any aftermarket exhaust this time around.
Hey I'm Italian and love Ferrari's but the noise levels in them can be more than a little irritating and can get old real fast and I would not want that sound all the time if I could get it for nothing.
OP I'm with you but GM caters to the Masses who in this case could very well be old!The majority of which prefer quiet.I've been thru the exhaust swap phase myself with prior Vettes.Bassani being the best sounding exhaust I've come across at a very fair price at the time. When I had my 95,I put a 200 chambered exhaust on it and again, the best sounding exhaust for a c4 I'd heard at that time. Now in my 08 I have NPP,which in my opinion is a highly over rated and over priced exhaust system but it is better then the basic non npp stock exhaust. If I ever do swap exhaust again,it'll be for a BASSANI,but as I get older the less I care!!

GM finally figured out what a horrible mistake it was in 08 when they offered the NPP exhaust.
It should have been an option from 05 on. It shouldn't have taken 3 years to put it into the lineup. My 06 XLR-V has it...the LS2 vettes should've also had it.
When I went to a roadcourse to race all of the porsche guys were making fun of the stock vette everytime it would pass (I was hanging out with them and laughing as well).
