You can always check with your dealership on the warranty item.
As for the picture above, those are from the heat. As the cabin cools, or the weather cools, those should go away. There was another thread just yesterday talking about the same thing.
Happens to mine everytime it gots really hot (90s) outside - like right now. I've written it off on lousy manufacturing/materials in the past. I have 1 year left on warranty and will ask dealer to replace eventually.
GM has a test facility in Phoenix and Yuma. Most other manufacturers also have test tracks in Arizona and they are here specifically because of the high heat and low humidity conditions. Most other GM test facilities are in MI.
It can easily exceed 140 degrees inside a closed garage here in the summer and 160 or more while parked in the sun.
If this was a problem caused solely by heat, every one of the est. 10K Corvettes in AZ would be falling apart. So the rarity of the issue, especially when experienced in other parts of the country where residents feel 90 degrees is really hot, points to minor/occasional deviations in materials and/or applications in manufacturing.
I would think warranty item without a doubt! Not supposed to do that period.. windows up or down! I'd take it to your dealer and let them take care of it...
I park ours outside daily in the Texas heat, I have a headliner for the glass top and also a windsheild shade and it keeps the heat down on the inside and this is a warranty item for sure
It is a problem where two different materials, vinyl and plastic expand and contract at different rates. I have seen this problem on jet aircraft with interiors costing millions of dollars. The only cure is to acquire materials that were assembled in high temperature conditions. That opens the possibility of the vinyl tearing when temperatures cool. Fortunately everything is fine during normal temperatures.
My 09 does the same thing, after reading the forum and talking to some people I have found out the replacement pillar covers do the same in the high heat. They always go back to normal when it cools down so I'm not doing anything with mine.
My 2011 does that too. I use a sun shade but it may reflect the heat up to the A pillar. It will be on my to git fixed list along with a leaky steering rack.
my c5 never did anything like that, and I used to drive it to work and leave it lot all day. I did have tinted windows on it, and I can't find anyone to tint the c6 locally and not murder the back window.
I live in Arizona with relentless sunshine and high temperatures. I've often parked my car (windows up) in the sun and heat and I've never experienced anything like that.
Do you use a windshield (reflective) sunscreen when you park the car? This can reduce interior temps considerably and help preserve the dash and interior.
I also recommend you use 303 Aerospace Protectant on the dash, pillars, etc. It contains a UV blocking compound which is beneficial. Judging from your pillar 'puckering' I think I'd use some ASAP. Good luck.
