I don't drag race my car, and have never been on a track with it. I have a 2006 A6 coupe. What is the best way to take off from a dead stop? I read a thread earlier about launching that got me wondering.
Not knowing any better, I assumed having the car in Sport mode so I can use the paddles, and putting it in 1st gear, then just hammering the gas and shifting quickly would be the best way to take off. Is their a better way? I typically leave the traction control on, as again I assumed that would be the best option.
If their is a better way, please somebody educate me.
Most of the time, I just let the car do the shifting, even when I've got it in "S" mode. "S" mode does cause the tranny to hold the lower gears longer if you're gettin' on it a little.
Better for taking off like a rocket from a dead stop. I guess it's called launching the car. I'm just curiuos what the fastest way to take off is.
I read a thread earlier on the topic which is why I'm asking this question, and teh OP of that thread would start in 3rd gear and then hammer the gas after staging. I'm not sure what staging means though.
If you don't have a lot of practice, I would put it in "S" and punch it.
You can also shift for yourself but mine (2006 A6) doesn't like to shift to 2nd if the rear tires are slipping any. You also might want to put it into "competitive driving mode". This will let the tires slip a little but not let you get to out of line.
If you turn off the traction control it might not be a smart thing. It's there for a purpose especially with the power you're dealing with. The vette is just like any other car - no need to change your driving style - unless you are talking about performance driving.
