Default Wheel Upgrade?

I would like to change from the current chrome 5 spokes I have to something in comp grey.

My first preference is to find some used 08-10 comp grey split spokes from someone who wants to upgrade and sell their old wheels.
My second choice is a set of reproduction comp gray spiders.

I'm stuck in a battle with myself over buying wheels that are Genuine GM wheels and less expensive, but are used and probably have some blemishes VS. getting brand new wheels with no blemishes, but more expensive and also not genuine GM wheels.

I'm sure some of you have battled this as well... what say the Corvette forum?

Also - if you have some comp grey split spokes you want to sell me please let me know.. i want to buy before the end of the month.

Tough call. Some people are **** about small defects while others are not. I guess you have to ask yourself which category do you fit under. The way I see it, comp grey and black wheels are easy to touch up small flaws. Chrome wheels aren't. Also, if you plan to do any future mods like wider body, why waste extra money now when you'll need to change them out later (I wish I would have thought about this last point..lol).

FYI- I will have some black O.Z. wheels and tires going up for sale at the end of the month. Not comp grey but I figured I would throw it out there.

I saw you post those up in another thread... they are pretty sweet! Pm what you want to get for them but I would imagine they are out of my price range.

In the Chicago area, I was able to buy two complete sets of 2009 split-spokes, like new, within a month for $300/set. These were the standard silver paint, add maybe another $300/set to get them professionally refinished in Comp Gray and you have virtually new wheels for ~$600/set.

There is some virus that causes otherwise-honest people to become pathalogical liars when selling their wheels. A personal inspection before purchase will eliminate a ton of grief. Guess how I know...

I see way too many problems with non-GM wheels.

Buy my OEM 2010 silver spit spokes and have them powder coated.

Actually those Comp Grey spyders would be my choice.

I got a quote for powder coating at $500 a set. so $300 for the painted and $500 for Powder coat puts me near the same price as the spiders. Might as well go new then!

I would advise you to stay with OEM wheels unless of course you spend a fortune for top of line custom made.

I had the same issue... and when after a few weeks of contemplating i decided the spyders are the way to go!!

I think they look GREAT and a good few people have complimented me on it.

I got it from a vendor on here for a great price and they are just about perfect (except one wheel isnt perfectly round when I balanced it it was WAY off) but a few weights on the inside and now im all good.

I'd try to get away from those genuine GM wheels. Unless your totally **** about the car IMO there's nothing wrong buying used wheels in 'good' condition. There'll be some minor wear and tear but as long as the wheels aren't functionally damaged I don't see a problem. You're going put your own wear and tear on the wheels (provided the car isn't a garage queen). Hell, everyone I know drives on used wheels. There's always a small amount of risk buying used items from people you don't know but hopefully you can have some confidence in the seller (and the seller in you). The used wheels should be honestly represented by the Seller. Good luck deciding and finding what you want.

Call it bad luck, or misunderstandings, or honest mistakes, or outright crookedness; but after shipping 3 sets of wheels back to the various sellers because of undisclosed defects, I stopped buying wheels I can't inspect before purchase.

I appreciate that Dan but unfortunately I dont have the gumbys... they are just the standard 5 spoke Chrome wheels.
