Bought 2006 coupe, came with only one fob (#2 on the back). Works OK; opens&locks doors and trunk. I wanted to program door locking/unlocking options. When I push the "Options" button on the dashboard, the display says "Options unavailable". Car engine is running and fob is in. As per manual "OPTIONS UNAVAILABLE: This message is displayed for a few seconds if a keyless access transmitter that is not labelled 1 or 2 is used and you try to personalize the features on your vehicle by pressing the OPTION button."
Does anybody have a good troubleshooting instruction? Should I go thru the "Matching transmitter" procedure? Could I have a fob that works but was not matched to be #1 or #2?
Thanks - FF

That's it. The FOB you have was likely added as #3 or #4, either of which will not let you access the memory settings.
If you bought from a GM dealer you should probably go back and have them program it correctly as #1. If not bought from a GM dealer, you can program it yourself but you have to follow the steps "exactly" because you will erase everything in the memory and start fresh. Here are proven instructions. Read them carefully, if you have any questions just come back and ask.
And, secondly, you have to have a key to do this procedure. If you didn't get a key then you need to go back OR go to a GM dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership and they will look up the key code and cut you a key. Good luck.
The only thing I can add is that this means there are likely fobs out there that are programmed to your car and that are in the possession of someone other than you. The long procedure will fix that. Read and understand all the instructions before starting the programming procedure.

Thanks for your instructions. I bought from a private seller who only had one fob. Ihave the key. I tested the fob I have: 1. driver's window down all the way, turn car off
2. Trunk open
3. Glove box open
4. Put working fob on console next to shifter no cellphonesin the car.
5. Put key in trunk keyhole and turn key five times in less than 5 seconds.
6. DIC did not display or beep anything. Car starts and the existing fob works OK.

Anything else I could try on my own?
You need to perform the Long fob procedure, steps 11-22, not the short fob procedure which you cite above (steps 1-6). The turning of the key five time in five seconds is sometimes tricky as people tend not to turn it far enough.
