Navigation System Issues
I have a 2005 Z51, with the navigation system. when go to the Navigation to put in an address it sometimes it won't let me add one of course I'm sitting still in park with the car running waiting for the next step. How ever I can go to the recent locations and pick where I have been.

The NAV system is useless. I gave up on mine after a couple of months. Go buy a Garmin and you'll be much happier.

It's been my experience that folks who whine about the stock Nav system haven't taken the time to learn to use it properly.
Sure, there is a definite learning curve and I will agree that the Garmin is more intuitive (have a Garmin-based Kenwood unit in my C5Z) but the unit in my C6 works just fine once I learned to use it.
(and I do like the integration with the HUD)
Now, as to the OP's question, could you clarify what "put in an address it sometimes it won't let me add one" means? What happens when you try?

Everything you asked is in the navigation manual and if you take a little time learning how to use the features you will have no problems.
After using my built in factory nav for a while I now prefer it to my Garmin unit and with all the superior features like heads up display and multiple route options I never use the Garmin any longer.

If it doesn't find the address on the street you specified, its either not in its database or the wrong street/city location. You do need to first specify the area of the country the address is being looked for. It also depends on which version of database disc that you have...the early ones were a single disc and the later discs are two disc sets.

From the manual page 22:
"2Address: Touch this screen button to access
the ADDRESS screen. You can enter the
address one of two ways: street first or city first.
To input the street name first, do the following:
1. Touch the Street screen button from the
address menu and start inputting the street
name using the alpha keypad.
A list of available street names will
automatically display if there are less than
five street names available. Select the
List screen button at any time to view the
available street names. The box at the end of
the Street entry field will contain the number
of street names available in the current
generated list.
2. Select the desired street name with the correct
designation (Dr., Ln, St., etc.) from the list.
3. If the system determines that the street is
found in only one city within the search
area that city will automatically be selected.
If there is more than one city, the system
will display the list of cities that have a street
with that name. Select a city from the list
or select the Input Name screen button to input
the city name.
4. The house number screen will display, enter
the house number using the numeric keypad.
5. Once the correct house number is selected,
press the OK screen button.
A map screen will appear with the destination
marked."

In other words, none of them are perfect.
I have two Garmins, two different factory navs in other maker's cars, a phone nav, and the factory nav in our C6. All of them are useful, none are perfect. After learning how to use it (takes time and effort), I happen to prefer the C6 factory nav.

Are you following the instructions in your navigation manual starting on page 2-6? If so, and it’s still not working, I would speak with someone about it if it bothers you. I noticed you said you use your Garmin mostly now.
